How to Mount a CD drive (Not like THAT you perverts!)

Dear super-geeky LJ genie (or Linux/Ubuntu users like me),

The other day, I upgraded to Linux Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala (from Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackelope). It has some "disk sector" errors, but I read that it can also be a glitch and also what it called "many" really weren't that many, so I wasn't concerned.

My problem is with my CD/DVD drive. It seems to sense that it physically there, but it says that it is not mounted. I tried to look up how to mount my CD drive, and I tried running all sorts of commands, but none of them were correct.

Most of the time I was told it was an error. Other times, I think I only ran processes that were already completed. I've also read through what reboot_kid helped me with when I set things up on my computer last time.

I've not figured out how to mount my CD/DVD drive at all. I know it's a Matshita. I think it starts with a string like "EJ" or something like that.

I do not even know the command to run in the terminal to see if you can find out what it is reading or not reading.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I need t get my drive mounted.

(I've other problems with DVD styler and such, but I figure, take it one step at a time - maybe uninstall and reinstall things first once I get my DVD drive mounted, then see what happens with those things!)
