LJGenie - overheating laptop

Dear LJGenie that knows everything about computers ever since UNIVAC and ENIAC were starting to be made,

My laptop has been overheating a lot lately.

It used to overheat at times, but it never used to overheat as much until it got off kilter. I thought I knocked things back into place because it quit making noises, but now it's overheating every single day when it's used. It is very irritating.

It used to do better on my desk, but it still overheats there. I never know when it overheats, either, as there is no warning. It'll just suddenly power off all by itself.

In fact, I can hold it so the cooling fan is off and actually in the air and not touching anything else, but it still overheats! This morning, I went to use my laptop and had it so the fan was in the air and could hopefully cool and my laptop would work for a bit, but it overheated in less than an hour.

My mom put one of those "cooling pads" on my desk, and I've not tried it yet, but it only looks like it's a bumpy pad that raises the laptop so the fan has room to cool, whih is exactly or even less than what I do when I hold my laptop.

Do I need to open it up and look to see if the inside parts are aligned? Do I need to go get it fixed somewhere?
