In the style of Tasha Tudor?

Dec 13, 2008 21:59

I could not get to sleep and ended up play The Dot Game on Facebook until a little past 2:30am.

I slept in today until around 10am.

Around 11:30am, we all headed downtown to go to the Tasha Tudor exhibit and activities that was recommended by Banners.

However, we first stopped at the Charlestown Farmers' Market. (Random fact: Lake charles was once called Charlestown.)

We were the most interested in the sweets, of course! There really wasn't that much there. However, if I have money sometime, I'll be interested in looking at the scented soaps. There were some interesting scents there. I was intrigued by the Peppermint Lime scented soap. oh, yeah, and I might also be interested in the jams and jellies. I saw that they had blackberry and blueberry. Blackberry jam sounds delicious!

The Charlestown Farmers' Market seems to take place on Saturdays from 9am or 10am and then they close at noon. They are located on a little section of Bilbo St. that is closed off to the public when they are there that is directly in front of the Old City Hall.

After getting a cheesecake, a blueberry cobbler, a blueberry coffee cake, and a carrot cake (and my mom got some other stuff as well, but I wasn't there to see what she bought), we went into the Old City Hall.

At first, we went to make the Christmas cards "in the style of Tasha Tudor." You could make them in that style or however you wanted to make them, really. We had to leave them there (which is just fine) as they were going to the nursing homes.

For the first one that I made, I had one of the workers draw a bell with holly leaves because I was tired and did not feel like drawing anything on my own at first. I colored it with some colored pencils and then went over it with water because these were special colored pencils that were supposed to look like water colors once water was lightly brushed over the area.

I chose a verse that they had already printed and wrote it in the card. They insisted that I sign my name, so I did.

I decided to make a second card since my mom and Briana were not done with their cards at the time. They finished while I was making my second card.

My second card, I did with the paints. I put a wavy green border on the card. Then I painted red around the outside. Of course, this made red get on the inside of the card, too, so I put some red on the inside.

After that, I painted a star and then a stable and a manger. I liked how the manger looked. I had used the brown paint. I did not worry about letting the brown paint dry before using the yellow paint to paint they hay. This made the colors blend and it looked really cool.

I then wrote some Bible passages in the card and either "Merry Christmas" or "Have a Merry Christmas."

We then went to decorate the gingerbread cookies. I was not too thrilled with the decorating part as they only had some tube frosting and it was not easy to use. However, the cookies certainly tasted good!

I tried some of the spiced cider, but hot spiced cider has never been something I've really enjoyed.

We saw a lot of Tasha Tudor's paintings and we went to where the lady was showing illlustrations of hers in books and reading "The Night Before Christmas." We completed some of the poem as she read. Some of it I remembered, but there are definitely parts that I easily forget. I'm thinking that it is a poem worth memorizing. Hey, I'll have more than "Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening" and silly poems memorized if I do memorize it. Sometimes I wonder what else is up in my brain when it comes to memorization . . .

We went to Cotten's to get food. I did not need that big greasy meal, but it was very good! I'm still full right now (though, I also did eat three cookies - imitation oreos, but very good ones! We found them near the check out at Walgreens.)

In the evening, we watched Christmas specials and Christmas shows. I played piano for about a half hour when we didn't have things to watch.

I didn't watch all of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" this time. I was looking for a certain music book, which I did find. Marbles was a total nutcase while I looked for the book, though. He stood behind me as if he couldn't get through. I told him to just go around if he wanted through. If you know they layout of my house, it's basically a big circle! All the doors were open!

Maybe it was something about The Grinch being on again or maybe it was something about playing piano, but I just really started missing my Daddy again tonight. I mean, I know I have to keep living and I'm not really depressed like I was, but it just made me incredibly sad.

Anyway, I need to go wash my clothes because I'm planning on taking a shower tomorrow morning instead of this evening since I really don't want to wake myself tonight, but I also do not want to attend church (at either or any service) smelling like I'm sick and maybe like onions. Ew . . . (you know, those onion rings.)

However, I have to say that the odorless garlic oil pills have been wonderful since I never burped garlic and my body never smelled like garlic!
