I'll be sure to show off your game to everyone as well! I am confident that it will be awesome.
Also, I find most art events are the way you described Nuit Blanche. People who are looking for instant gratification and acceptance. People who confuse unique with impressive and cool. It's why I've never been particularly involved with the art scene in Ottawa.
Also, I'm glad that your laptop is turning out well. I hope I get a chance to see some of your new pixel art soon!
In geekier pixel art news: I did a low res painting of Jayne from Firefly recently -- It's actually for a cross-stitch project Lindsey's doing. When she posts pictures of the final product, I'll link it. :)
I'll see about posting some more ridiculous stuff in the mean time. I was considering undertaking a sprite-a-day project of sorts; maybe doing some little animations and scenes... We'll see. :)
Glad you like the laptop. I'd consider downgrading it to XP myself (evidently, the tx1000 or tc1000 drivers will drive the touchscreen just the same) since, despite my best efforts, really can't learn to live with Vista.
It's a shame about Nuite Blanche - I didn't go this year precisely because I thought it would be like last year: elbow to elbow with dunk riff raffs. Sad to hear that it's even less spectacular.
We should all band together and get some pieces out to elevate the level of art. I think a lot of the "better" artists from our generation don't think highly enough of themselves. This leads to them constantly trying to improve their art. Which makes them better artists. Too bad the mentality that makes them great also makes them feel that things like Nuite Blanche are for the more accomplished... Infuriating, really...
That's good to know. I'll consider it if it's problematic -- might be worth while to just wait it out for Windows 7. I have some confidence that Microsoft will product a better product after Vista's... poor reception. My hope is that it'll be SLIM.
But yeah, it was kinda sad. I was hoping for something more engaging, and I've heard from some people I know that they had a blast, but I just don't feel I was attending the event I was promised.
I'd be totally interested in trying to create something for a show, though. Maybe we should see about gathering a bunch of people and putting up an exhibition of sorts? Worth thinking about at the very least... Maybe for the winter or spring?
Was this the second nuit blanche or the third? I went to the first one and thought it was amazing. Definitely a few duds, but overall I was so impressed.
This was the third. The second, last year, was cool, but * overrun * with drunks. It was intense. This year, at least, as far as I ventured, it was slightly less drunks, but the art declined a lot, and that's my main reason for going.
I hope next year is several kinds of different, but I don't see how it'd be managed; at least, not without finding a way to convince people that they can be stimulated and entertained without being intoxicated.
