Pixel Paintings

On a less angry note; I thought I'd display the images I've been working on. There are five images in the series so far; the other two I am finishing up tonight sometime. -.-

However, these three I am proud off. I think they find the middle ground between classic art and games in a near-perfect blend. For that, I am pleased. :)

These are all 3 times bigger than their original file, for ease of viewing, and I've placed them with the original painting that I am referencing.

First up is Margitte's "Son of Man":

The original version of this I attempted replaced both the Apple with the Baby Metroid and the man with a Helmet-less, pallet shifted Samus Aran. However, it read too much like a videogame and not enough like a piece of art, so Samus was taken out. The important element, though, the temptation (the Metroid) remains.

Second is Andy Warhol's "Marilyn Diptych":

The portrait of Peach from Mario 3 was too good to pass up. Closely cropped and put in to multiplicity, I change the image to greyscale and recoloured it by hand, not unlike the way Warhol recoloured Marilyn's photo in his silkscreen. I had fun recreating the degradation of the black and white images in a way that reflected the original degradation but was still uniquely pixel-y.

Finally, for now, is Piet Mondrian's "Composition No. III":

Amusingly, I can't find a larger version of this original, so it's been blown up to match its pixel opposite. I thought of Mondrian's distinct work several times, but I couldn't seem to get it to /feel/ right until I tried again last night and came up with this. Abstract art and Tetris just go together so well. Actually, looking at this one now, I see a little mistake -- Not exactly a blessing for the overall processes current curse, but I can touch it up before I get the image reprinted.

Anyhow -- this is some of the work I've had in the gears for a while. There'll be more pixel paintings posted in the near future. Mind you, these are just the images -- there's a whole other step where they get mounted to board and made semi-3D (my idea of brush strokes, amongst other things).

As for additional progress goes, the Emotional planets have made some changes in the last few weeks. I'm trying to escape the 'head' sensation they possess. Faerie Tale is coming along well. I'll have a cool tech demo for you all next week. :)

All right -- I'm going to go release some stress.
Later all,
- Kagirinai
