mission Pittsburgh now complete

Ending my last job on October 27, and my new job on November 1st, I had a nice long weekend to play with. I decided to go to Pittsburgh to breathe/clean the slate for the transition. I also wanted to see people I was unable to see the previous 3 visits since time was short with Carnival, my brother's graduation and a wedding. Besides, it was Homecoming! Alumni events for Zeta and APhiO were another incentive.

There were lots of people I still didn't get to see, but I had a couple of priorities.
#1 priority was my friend Meredith who I am going to be her maid of honor for next summer. With a new job, I wasn't sure when the next time I would be able to visit Pittsburgh, and I had not had a chance to discuss the wedding with her in person since she asked me in the 1 brief minute I saw her during Carnival. Her and her fiance, Dan cooked me a very tasty dinner on Friday night at their place. It was so nice to catch up. And I finally got to meet her parents, who flew in from Nashville for her choir performance, and to see Dan's brother, Marcus, who will be the best man. Unfortunately, I only caught the very tail end of the performance on Sat night, but I was glad I got to see them all.

#2 Priority were the wonderful women I worked with in Pittsburgh who I hadn't spoken to at all since leaving, and who were like my adopted mothers/friends while I was there. Unfortunately, since I took the train all day on Friday, I couldn't see the ones who worked full-time M-F. But I caught up with Patty, the test center supervisor at Pitt who I was room supervisor/proctor for since 2000, on Saturday morning when the GRE subject tests were going on. I worked with her husband, son, and her extended family, and she was able to pass on my hello's to my other past coworkers who I missed this visit. of course, she asked about Kurt who worked there, too for a couple years.

And then Sunday morning, I stopped at Family House Shadyside to see Jacy. When I worked there every other weekend as weekend manager, she worked my off schedule. And since we worked weekends, she would take me Friday nights to temple at Rodef Shalom. She's now 70 yrs old! She's amazing. Luckily, she was working this weekend and so I got to see her there. The thing about working at Family House is that you listen to all the guest's troubles since they have family members in the hospital, that nobody listens to your troubles. So poor Jacy, I think had a lot on her mind. But she never fails to ask about my father, brother, mother, and why I don't have a boyfriend yet.

And for the life of me, I could not get in touch with Jan White all weekend long! The lady refuses to get an answering machine! I've known this lady since 1999 when I worked on the 4th floor of the Cathedral of Learning as part of Pitt's College of General Studies. Jan is such a giving person, who helps her elderly neighbors out and those who were part of the College-Over-60 program she worked on...and she always cooked for me. She never failed to invite me to her house for Easter or Thanksgiving, but I never got to go because of arrangements with my own family. I finally got in touch with her tonight, and she- like Jacy- always seems to have a load to share with me, but asked about my own family and ended the conversation by inviting me to her house in Pittsburgh for Thanksgiving and saying "I love ya kiddo" :) Mission now accomplished!
