Title: Storm
Pairing/Characters: Yamamoto Takeshi (TYL), Gokudera Hayato (TYL)
Series: Katekyo Hitman Reborn
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Storm, a flame of Degeneration. Rain, a flame of Tranquility. A fragile balance.
Author's Notes: Okay. So I actually damn near made myself cry for this fic. So you better jolly well like it. *GLARE* Kidding aside (Actually no, not kidding. I really did almost cry a few times), this thing happened at the thought of "What happens if the Degenerative storm flame backlashes?".
Also, for better effect listen to
this while reading.
Not liable for any tears and/or weeping done in the course of reading this. *Hides*
[EDIT 21/04/20100]:
Okay uhm. Got Gokudera's eye color wrong. Changed it from Blue to Green. ♥ Thanks to
nuakiire and
staringathesky sweetie for pointing it out. Also changed format slightly. XD Why? Cause I'm just anal that way 8D

He didn't get it. He just couldn't understand the problem.
It wasn't just a habit anymore, it was a part of who he was. Sure he might have started smoking as a form of rebellion against his father, but that was a long time ago. Now it was the only thing that quelled the madness growing inside of him. He was the storm - wild and deadly, consuming everything in his path. And it was threatening to consume him from the inside out.
A click of the lighter, and that ever familiar scent of tobacco filled his nose, the taste on his tongue relaxing his entire body. Once again the storm was calmed. For now at least.
"I thought you quit."
Gokudera tensed.
"I didn't hear you come in."
The sound of the shoe cabinet being opened and closed, followed by silence. And suddenly his cigarette was plucked out of his mouth and thrown over the balcony edge. Watching the orange ember disappear into the darkness of the night, Gokudera growled and smacked the other man's hand off his shoulder. Green eyes darkened in anger as he felt the storm stir within him, fingers itching for a stick of dynamite now.
"What the fuck did you do that for?!"
"You promised me you'd quit."
Oh god. He hated it, he hated how the other man could stay so calm in the face of such utter destruction. Hated how he could walk away from a battle and not suffer the insanity that always accompanied a bloodbath.
"I did. For a while."
He sighed. "Hayato that's not quitting. We've discussed this before."
"Yea. We did. And I told you, it's driving me fucking batty." Gokudera hissed. "You ain't here all the god damned time either so don't fucking start on me you prick."
There wasn't a single light on in the room, and yet he could feel the other withdrawing away from him. Once again he ended up hurting him, pushing him away. Slumping against the balcony wall, Gokudera slid down and curled up tightly. He wasn't going to cry, wasn't going to break down. He had enough. He was sick and tired of the constantly growing instability inside of him, and for the first time he was afraid.
Afraid of the raging storm.
"Hayato..."
The soft rustling of clothes, and Gokudera knew without looking up that the other man had knelt down beside him. Already he could feel the Rain working its powers, but it just wasn't enough. It would never be enough.
"I love you Hayato."
Gokudera tensed, heart pounding in his chest, the first danger signs of tears starting to form.
"Hayato, don't do this. Please, look at me." It was cold. "Hayato."
The Storm Guardian swallowed, his throat dry and voice gone. His entire body was paralyzed, trembling, shaking. Was it fear? He couldn't tell, mind overcome with numbness. Silence followed, neither of them speaking a word. Sickening, heavy silence that seemed to last forever.
"I'm sorry."
The trembling stopped, and so did his entire being.
"I'm sorry Hayato."
No. No, anything but that. Looking up, panicked green eyes met honey brown orbs filled with regret. And the trembling returned, this time it was just his bottom lip.
"No. There's nothing to be sorry about." He reached out a hand, fearful, apprehensive. It was growing out of control.
He was losing it.
"It's my fault. I shouldn't have said what I said. I was wrong." He was crying. It wasn't the rain this time, it was honest to god tears. "Please... Don't. Don't apologize." He reached out, hand shaking with silent sobs that just would not come out. Only to fall forward as the Rain Guardian stood up and moved back.
Shock ran through his body, his entire body falling forward, barely catching himself on the palms of his hands. "Why..."
"You know why."
"You promised..."
"I'm sorry."
He was tired. He didn't have the energy for this anymore. Slumping back against the wall, he looked up at Yamamoto in front of him, eyes slowly starting to dim. "Why..."
"I love you, Hayato. Always and forever."
And he was alone again. Like he had been the whole time. The whole time, nothing more than a hallucination. Closing his eyes, Gokudera started to laugh.
And slowly, the glow of the bloodied Vongola Ring of Rain began to fade. Just like that, the storm inside of him will never be quelled. Just like that, he would never be whole again.
Just like that, Yamamoto Takeshi was gone from his life forever.
