So disappointed, but not losing hope.

Proposition 8 passed by 52%, eliminating the right of same-sex couples to marry in California. But, Proposition 4 failed, which would have been the more indelible and troublesome of the two and is more important overall. Barack Obama has been elected into office as the President of the United States of America, a historic moment as the first non-white to be elected to the highest office in the nation.

It really did make a difference to me to see my friends voicing outrage, disappointment, and sympathy over the results of Proposition 8. And I can't believe how lucky I am to have my friends, and my parents, tell me that they voted against, and that they don't think that this amendment will stand. No matter how upset I am over the results of the vote, I can't even begin to express how it made me feel to hear the people who matter most to me say this to me.

And so, so many people, people I didn't even expect, have been standing up and speaking out against the ban on gay marriage. I am bitterly disappointed, but what's stronger than that to me is knowing that my friends and parents are behind me, and that our community and our allies are ready to fight.
