They Always Choose The Hard Way...

I had a talk with Shikamaru today. *rubs bridge of nose* It didn't go well.... *sighs and looks for bottle of tequila*

----------------------------------------------------

Shikamaru walks into the kitchen to see his dad. His eyes narrow, and he huffs with a slightly annoyed tone.

Shikaku's brow furrows. "Oi, Shikamaru come here."

Still annoyed, Shikamaru sat down at the table crossing his arms. Never realizing how much like his father he could look. "What old man?"

He laughed gruffly over his glass of beer. "What's eatin ya? You look like you just lost a chess tournament to a amateur."

"Interesting how you find the time now to act as a father and actually feel the need to talk to me. I make a decision and you squash it." He said still annoyed.

"It's a bad decision. It's too hasty." he frowned. "You usually think before you act."

"I have thought." "Your wife seemed to agree."

"I feel you didn't tell her everything," he peered at his son over the glass.

Shikamaru rolled his eyes and huffed a strand of hair out of his face. "So I left out the part about Temari...so?"

"You're going to get hurt because of this." He took a sip of his drink. "I can feel it in my bones."

"So you don't approve of her. You're wife is far more scary..."

"BAH! It's the amazon! She's just like your mother..." He shook his head and shivered at the thought.

His voice flat he said "So what is the problem?"

"You're makeing a rash decision, Shikamaru." He closed his eyes and sighed. "Never make educational decisions based on a woman."

"This coming from someone who only graduated from highschool." He paused. "Chouji and Ino are mad at me..." he trailed off. His eyes averted to the wall, away from his father as he spoke.

"Oh?" Shikaku's brows raised.

He sighed heavily. "Chouji.....Chouji's ignoring me. Ino, I made her cry...I feel like shit."

"See?" He shook his head. "You're loseing friends because of this. What a dope..."

His eyes shot back at his father with a death glare. "I'm not a dope" he huffed. "They say I'm bailing on them, I'm not!"

"You are..."

His brows furrowed even deeper. "I'm not...." He refused to see it that way, and was stubborn.

"You disappoint me..."

His eyes shifted up, looking hard at his father. His chest felt tight. As much as he disliked his father sometimes, to hear something like that completely knocked him flat on his face. When his father was serious, it made things worse. He opened his mouth to speak, then paused. "Why do I disappoint you?" he asked flatly, almost sure he knew the answer. "It's my decision."

"You have deserted your friends that you've known your entire life for a woman you've known for maybe a little over a month. This woman is causeing you to make decisions that my Shikamaru wouldn't normally make. And look what it's done to you." He lifted his head and looked his son up and down. "You're a mess."

Shikamaru glared at him. Those words hit hard, harder than any punch in the face he'd recieved from Sakura. He stood up out of his seat, angry, hurt, confused and ready to cry. He held it back and turned his back to his father before saying, "Whatever, old man" hurt laying thick on his words. He just stood there, his head slightly hanging.

Shikaku's brow furrowed and he scratched at his neck. "Maybe you should go to your room..." he said gruffly. He refilled his glass and decided to sit back and drink his mind into forgetfullness.

He was ready to do as complied but walked out the back door instead. Where he was going to go he didn't know. He just couldn't stay in that house.

Shikaku watched his son leave the house through the back door and just sighed shakeing his head. "Why do they always have to learn the hard way.." With that he plopped his forehead onto the table with a thud.
