- This rant could be considered anti-religion, but it's not. In the college I am attending (West Virginia University), the religious and scientific are making it a political war on campus about who is right and who is wrong in this debate. I am honestly sick of it, most especially the hypocracy, so this is my rant. This may be offensive to some, so if you're a Bible Thumper, just don't even read it.
Once again, all comments WILL be screened. Your opinions do not matter to me, and are not legit unless I deem them so. This is my rant, therefore I determine relevance.
Evolution vs. Intelligent Design
For over a century, religious fanatics dared to call scientists blasphemers for daring to even tread on the grounds that God did not in fact have any effect on how life came to be on Earth, or how Earth came to be in and of itself. They shunned us, they stoned us, and they even burned some. Darwin lead a life of recluse for fear of the Church raining fire and brimstone on him, to use their fantastic biblical terms.
Now the religious dare to plagerize the scientific community's doctorine. They take our theory of evolution and claim it is now true and happened that way--BUT they not only refuse to admit they were wrong, they also refuse to allow any science to be involved. It was God's will that everything evolved this way. Through intense patience, he weeded out the "bad seeds" of life through God's version of Natural Selection and chose those of life he wanted to evolve.
According to this policy which the Church claims is all its own and completely unplagerized, free will exists still, but God still determines life and death in the universe. So wait, doesn't that mean free will does not exist now? Obviously, he's not allowing nature to take it's course, which now no longer exists--it, too, falls under Intelligent Design and is also in obeyance to God's will.
I was raised Roman Catholic, and was raised to believe. I was also raised to the ideal that you were a horrible, awful person if you did not fear God's mighty wrath. You also were equally a horrible person if you dared to question. Take the story of Cain and Abel. Cain slew Abel, then married and had two sons. WHERE did his wife come from? According to the Bible, the only humans on Earth were Adam, Eve, Cain, and Abel. I highly doubt there was the incestual relationship of Cain and Eve. When I asked about this, my priest told me, "You do not question. You accept it as it is." Because of all these little doctorines of the Church, I decided to leave the devout and follow my own beliefs: what can be scientifically proven.
What can be scientifically proven is evolution. We as humans evolved from species similar to us, but with pre-evolutionary characteristics. What else can be proven is the theory of evolution and natural selection were scientific theories authored by scientists, NOT relgious devouts, yet they [the religious] claim stake on it as now true after outcasting the scientific community AND that they in fact wrote it.
And here I was always taught by Catholicism that hypocracy was sinful.
