Rachel is rather clingy when it comes to Finn, which I too found slightly odd until I started thinking about where Rachel is coming from. On the outside she appears to be a strong, goal-oriented person who knows what she wants (Broadway star,etc.). However, she has shown signs of insecurity. For example, she thinks Santana and Brittany are hotter than she is, and she thinks Finn finds them more desirable. The fact that he initially chooses her over them speaks volumes to her, and it assures her that she is special. When Finn breaks up with her (again) in season 2, that validation that she felt is gone, and she's left alone with her insecurities again. I think part of the reason she is chasing after Finn is that she wants that validation again that yes, she is special and means something to someone. That's why she's blind to the fact that Finn is a complete douchebag. He's one of the few people who makes her feel wanted instead of constantly tearing her down (granted he doesn't stop other people from insulting her, but for Rachel it appears that's enough). The moment someone else shows that same interest in Rachel, I think she will slowly start to be less hung up on Finn.

Personally, I think Rachel's supposed love for Finn is just her latching on to someone who has been kind (I say that with a hint of sarcasm) to her. I don't know, maybe she does love him, but like you, I haven't really been "in love." I've cared a lot about certain people, but I've never liked them to the point where that person is the only thing I'm thinking about. Part of me feels like the writers are catering to the Finchel fans by having Rachel continue to pursue Finn to this degree, but again it makes sense TO A POINT. Now if someone *cough cough* Quinn *cough* *cough* were to swoop in and tell Rachel she doesn't need someone to tell her how special she is and she shouldn't put up with the crap that Finn dishes out and should instead be with someone who genuinely cares about her instead of someone who dumps her for cheating even though the person doing the dumping is a hypocritical moron who turns around and encourages the very behavior that he condemned as long as it doesn't involve him and he gets to reap the benefits....that would be even better. Is that going to happen? Probably not, but I'm just going to stay in my Faberry bubble where everything is gay and nothing hurts and Finn gets what he deserves instead of the attention of two girls who deserve someone more mature and with a three digit IQ score.
