Holiday Updates

Update of the past few months:

November:

We went to my in-laws' house for a week at Thanksgiving. Michael and I were able to enjoy a relaxing week in Oklahoma, with all of his extended family. It's always a breath of fresh air when we're there, and I never quote want to get back to technology (they have dial-up, so we don't get on-line much there) when we return. That's probably why I was so silent since then. It was good, getting to know my "other" family more, including Michael's cousins, who I now lovingly call my own, as well. I adore his family! We are so incredibly blessed!

December:

We traveled to Florida to spend Christmas with my family. Kitty was good during the whole trip, there and back. Amazing what a traveling cat he is! This year, in our new SUV, he enjoyed roaming throughout the vehicle at all times. I think it was a nice change from being locked in his kennel and sitting on my lap when we had the old truck, with very little room inside (though Michael and I both miss that truck).

I practiced my simple crocheting a bit, to prepare for my mom teaching me to double-crochet, which she sure did! Yay!

Christmas with my family was fantastic - we got lots of cool stuff for Christmas, including a game of Canasta, which my mom took to teaching us right away. Michael and I have taken to playing that every couple nights, and we have a blast! My mom and I had lots of fun, and I miss her like crazy, still.

We spent a day at Universal Studios Islands of Adventure, which was quite a lot of fun, despite the crowds, and ate a scrumptious dinner at Boma, our favorite Disney restaurant, at the Animal Kingdom lodge. It's an African buffet, and it is sooo incredibly good! Argh! Go there! Try their soups! And their salmon! AND save room for Zebra Domes! You will not regret it!

We rang in the New Year at my parents' (my home) church, and enjoyed catching up with my old church family. The youngsters are all so grown-up! We made a few new friends, and caught up with older friends. Michael enjoyed working the sound board that evening, since their sound guy wasn't there.

New Year's Eve was my pastor's daughter's (Kristen - my junior bridesmaid's) 14th birthday, and she's like a sister to me. We took her and her brother (Austin - our ring-bearer) out for ice cream, and to just spend some time. Michael and I split up with the kids after a bit, and the "guys" went to Circuit City, while us "gals" went to Claire's boutique, and picked out a sweet friendship charm to share.

We began our drive back to Texas on Sunday, January 2, with a pre-planned stay over in Battleship Alabama that night. When we awoke on our 2nd wedding anniversary, January 3rd, we toured the Battleship, the USS Alabama, and had a blast! I had no idea what ships were like in World War 2, so this experience opened my eyes to what my grandfather experienced. I even bumped my head against a solid chunk of iron metal while touring a turret! Ouch! I still have a bump! (Reminder to share what my mom made for our anniversary!)

Now:

We're hoping to take a bit of a "real" vacation for just the two of us, sometime later in the year. I love visiting family and friends, but it seems that any traveling we do over any long weekends is always to visit family or friends, and we haven't done anything for "just us" since our honeymoon. And even then, we were sick for most of that. LOL!

Oh, and I've made a resolution, or two.

Number one is to keep in touch better with my beloved family and friends. Communicate better. Don't let such long periods of time go by without making contact. I don't want to lose touch with those I love. So, I've been making a (pretty good) effort since we returned, keeping up with the Yahoo groups we run, and others I am a part of. I've emailed, even if only to say "Hi, I'm thinking of you," and plan to keep doing so. It doesn't take long to email or type a letter, I've found. I'm determined to let my loved ones know I'm thinking of them.

Number two is keeping up with FLYlady, and a neat house. I have a habit of doing the bare minimum, just to get by. Our house doesn't look a mess, but I do have a bad habit of clutter. Instead, I am now de-cluttering, and slowly but surely bringing each room to tip-top shape. My husband's major Christmas gift (from me, my parents, and my brother) was a tool box. He bought an accompanying rolling tool box that ours sits above. Now he can have all of that stuff that was just taking up space in the garage, organized! We're even looking to build shelves in the garage, so we can organize better. We have large computer boxes sitting in our computer room, and we want to move those out into the garage, so that our computer room is more "friendly," and less cluttered. I am so thrilled with the changes!

And I am sooo thankful for the love of my life, and the work that God is doing in our life together!!!

Well, I suppose there's more I could say, but I am going to wrap it up for now. I'll save something for my next entry! LOL!
