This is an Urban Legend from our world. It's said that beneath the Vatican are vast catacombs that serve as storage areas for strange artifacts, forgotten sacred objects and bogus relics ( Read more... )

Aside from how horrifying that story is in general, you never let someone in an uncataloged storage area who doesn't know what he's doing.

Understood, Handsome, but not all humans are as smart as the Aristans. And I would say more blame falls on the guy who let the kid down there unsupervised, just because he was annoyed and wanted to go eat.

Still, it's just an urban legend. Who knows if it's actually true?

Oh, I completely agree. It's the letting him down there that's the problem.

It does seem farfetched, something like that being hidden away in storage when they thought they'd catalogued everything. Of course, I've never heard of the Vatican Hill having anything important at all, but that's probably a future/Christiani thing.

Absolutely a future christian thing, by your timeline. Assuming you have the whole takeover, which isn't a certainty, obviously.

I have to say, though, this would be better than just blaming Luc (the blond one) for everything, which is what they do now.

I don't see that it will. The Romans' empire collapsed here without a great deal of the people and events the book you gave me talks about. I don't see how they can become ...institutionalized the way they apparently were in yours.

Probably for the best. It was the whole 'We will force you to worship the way we do' that turned the Christians of my world into such colossal asses.

Frankly, any RELIGION that becomes Institutionalized, should have it's officers done so. Religion has no business getting mixed up in Politics.

I see your point, to an extent. I have to admit, normal religious rites can be an important part of the government's security and agricultural policy, but we, at least, don't conduct them at the expense of the cults outside the majority.

I see your point, but the establishment here went through a lot of trouble to enforce their views on everyone. Wars were fought over supposed 'holy land', and innocent people were burned for nothing more than using herbs to cure illness instead of having the local priest pray it away.

The system of religions from the area I was born is better, but the social order is still all fubared. Not due to religion, mind you, just in general.

Obviously, Arista does it better. Wish we had one in my world.

Hey, Handsome? Is the General around? I need to ask him something..

That's pretty horrifying. Bet it would horrify the people working at our asclepia even more.
Obviously.
Let me get him

Shortly

This is General Marc. What is it, Mr. Himoto?

I have a rather odd request to make, but I need to make sure Phil doesn't hear about it just yet? And as it would require me absconding with him for an afternoon and/or evening, I wanted to get your permission? Please god tell me the man isn't looking over your shoulder or something..

Only two people can assume it's okay to look over my shoulder, Mr. Himoto, and Phil is neither.

Where would you be bringing him?

Sanctuary, which I understand he's been to before. But specifically, in this case, he would be starting at my bookstore, and assuming I can drag him out of there, taking a ride in my car to visit my house. I'm sure Luc has told you all about the Real Irie in his report on the city.

And I wasn't accusing, Sir, just making sure. I was going to surprise him, and that would spoil it. You understand, don't you?

He did. All those things should be fine.

And I do understand. I was merely clarifying the situation
