Yesterday at 9pm my time there was a bombing in a residential district in Istanbul. We heard about it this morning before leaving to go to Alanya for the day (we were coming to see Batman BUT APPARENTLY THEY DUBBED IT SO NOW WE CAN'T).
Now here's whats up: I am living in Bumble-fuck village right now and suffer no immediate danger. Hell I don't even have to worry about secondary or tertiary danger out here. My parents heard about the bombing before I did. While I know certain people have a right to be legitimately concerned, I just want everyone to know that I am living and working so far from the general populace that I barely know what's going on. Gazıpaşa is a very independent town which considers large cities like Antalya, Istanbul, Ankara, etc to be morally reprehensible and debasing to Turkey as a country. They are simple and proud out here and I could not be in a safer place.
I also want you to know that tourists are not in any real danger when these events happen. 40% of Turkish economy is based on tourism. If the party in question were to attack tourists, it would cause the Turkish lira to plummet and the economy here to crash. This is against the interests of the responsible party because it would turn the Turkish sympathies away from their ınterests. Politically, those responsible for the bombing in Istanbul would be flushing their own interests down the toilet if tourists died.
Please do not worry! I am safe and sound here and am in more danger of falling off a mountain or being run over by goats than terrorist attacks.
I miss you all terribly and hope to hear from you soon.
