Character name: Twilight Sparkle
Fandom: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Timeline: After episode 21
Age: No official age, but apparently the ponies are meant to be 12~17 in mentality??? I have no idea. All that's certain is that they're the equivalents of young adults.
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths:
As a unicorn, Twilight has natural magic abilities. Magic also happens to be her Element of Harmony, which means her magic is even stronger than other unicorns'. Examples of her magic include teleporting, telekinesis, transmogrification, and other words beginning with T. Also she can give people mustaches and make dapper little suits. This is canon and very important,
To use her magic, Twilight must concentrate; her horn then glows until she's done casting her spells. While smaller feats of magic have little affect on her, more powerful spells can wear her out.
How would they use their abilities?:
FOR FRIENDSHIP. Uh, really though, she'll just... use her powers as she sees fit? She usually uses them to help her speed along mundane tasks, or to assist her friends with stuff. She's actually kind of really modest about it.
Appearance:
Twilight is a purple unicorn! Her mane and tail are a much darker shade of purple than her coat, with two streaks-one violet, and one pink. She has bangs that almost cover her eyes, and her mane runs smoothly down her back. Her cutie mark (aka the not!tramp stamp that all mature ponies have) is a pink six-pointed star, surrounded by five smaller white stars. Come on she's a pony how else am I supposed to describe her.
Background:
Equestria, the magical land of ponies, was once ruled by two princesses: the sisters Celestia and Luna. Together the sisters respectively ruled over day and night, bringing happiness and harmony to Equestria. However, as time went on, Luna became jealous of her older sister; everypony (yes, this is how indefinite pronouns are used in My Little Pony) enjoyed the sunlight under Celestia, but the same ponies were all asleep when Luna raised the moon. Over time, Luna's jealousy turned her into the evil Nightmare Moon, and Celestia sadly had to imprison her sister in the moon using the Elements of Harmony, powerful magical artifacts. The evil pony would stay trapped in the moon for a thousand years; eventually, she came to be known as the Mare in the Moon, and her story became nothing more than a myth.
A thousand years later, Twilight Sparkle, a young unicorn under the tutelage of Princess Celestia, discovers this story. She realizes that the day right after marks the thousand year anniversary of Nightmare Moon's imprisonment; convinced something big is going to happen, she quickly contacts Princess Celestia through her companion, the baby dragon Spike. Being one of the princess's most prized pupils, she expects to be rewarded for her findings, and for all of Equestria to prepare for Nightmare Moon's coming!
... Instead, Celestia pretty much tells her, "Giiiirl, get your head out of the books and go have some fun!" Except, you know. A lot more regal-er. Since she's a princess and all. So, she sends Twilight to Ponyville, where preparations are being made for the Summer Sun celebration, an annual festival to celebrate the longest day in Equestria. Twilight's mission? To oversee the preparations and to make friends.
Upon arriving in Ponyville, Twilight is... less than enthused! As a resident of Canterlot, a much classier place than the more down-to-earth Ponyville, she doesn't understand the way most of the ponies act. While doing her rounds, she meets five special ponies: Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Fluttershy, and Pinkie Pie.
BUT SURPRISE, CELESTIA IS NOT THERE. Instead, Nightmare Moon is in her place, declaring that she had kidnapped Celestia and plans to cover Equestria in an eternal night. Instead of taking a minute to go "I TOLD YOU SO" to everyone, Twilight rushes to research more on the Elements of Harmony. The five ponies mentioned earlier accompany her, and she relays to them the story of the Mare in the Moon, as well as the Elements of Harmony. They find out that the Elements are located in a castle in the Everfree Forest, a dangerous forest that borders Ponyville-basically it's the pony equivalent of the Harry Potter world's Forbidden Forest, let's go with that. Even though she insists on going alone, Twilight finds herself joined by the other ponies, and off they go into the forest.
Along the way, the young ponies encounter several obstacles, each seemingly catered to one of the ponies' special strengths or abilities. Applejack gets Twilight to trust in her instructions to lead her to safety when the latter falls off a cliff; Fluttershy calms an enraged manticore by gently pulling out a thorn in its paw instead of attacking it like the rest of the ponies are about to do; Pinkie Pie laughs in the face of ~*evil trees*~ and shows the rest of the group there's nothing to be afraid of; Rarity gives a dragon part of her tail to replace his missing mustache in order to have him help them across a river; and Rainbow Dash refuses to betray her friends to join this really shady group of pegasi.
Eventually, the ponies find the castle where the Elements of Harmony are held. Five of them are present; the sixth is missing, but according to the story, once the other five are gathered, the sixth will appear. Nightmare Moon then crashes the little pony party and shatters the five Elements, then teleports Twilight to another part of the castle. When she wakes up and sees the shattered Elements, she panics; she has failed Princess Celestia. When she hears the other ponies coming to her rescue, though, a "spark" ignites within her. She realizes that, even though the Elements have physically been broken, there's no way to completely destroy them. She then reveals that each of the ponies carries the power of an Element within them: Applejack is honesty, Fluttershy is kindness, Pinkie is laughter, Rarity is generosity, and Rainbow is loyalty. Upon this revelation, the "spark" within Twilight turns out to be representative of the sixth and final Element: magic. The elements manifest within each pony, and Nightmare Moon is restored to her original form as Princess Luna.
Princess Celestia then appears and reveals she knew the whole time that Twilight was right about Nightmare Moon; she just needed to discover the Elements of Harmony, and with them, the beautiful magic of friendship. Princess Celestia then forgives Luna, and together they promise to go back to ruling just as they did a thousand years ago. The next day, all the ponies gather back in Ponyville for the Summer Sun festival, and seeing that Twilight is reluctant to return to Canterlot and leave her new friends, Celestia allows her to stay in Ponyville, in return for reporting everything she learns about friendship along the way. Twilight agrees, promising Celestia she'll study even harder than ever before.
And that is. Pretty much where the main plot ends. (THIS STORY HAD A PLOT??) From this point, the series turns into a sort of slice of life story, following the six ponies' adventures and what friendship-related lesson Twilight learns as a result of that episode's shenanigans. YEP.
Personality:
In her introduction, Twilight is shown to be... kind of a jerk! Even when encouraged by Princess Celestia to make friends, she states she would much rather read books than interact with other people, heaven forbid. At this point, she prides herself on being a pupil of the princess, and sees herself as higher than the Ponyville ponies; or, at the very least, much more cultured than they are.
However, after her trials with the rest of the ponies, Twilight discovers the true meaning of friendship, and becomes loyally devoted to her companions. She shows herself to be a very kind pony, always honest and straightforward. She is tends the voice of reason among her friends, being the most intelligent and educated, thanks to her background. In spite of this, though, she can be just as naive about things, especially when social skills are concerned; for example, she tells Applejack and Rainbow Dash she'd never been in a race before, but had learned all about them from books; when she decides to host a sleepover with Applejack and Rarity, she brings out what is pretty much The Idiot's Guide to Throwing Sleepovers and faithfully sticks to it.
She does continue to be kind of stuffy sometimes, though! at times, she can be skeptical despite the fact that she possesses mindblowing magical skills, and her sarcasm can be pretty biting if she feels up to it. Even in face of all her skills, though, she can't stand the idea of upstaging her friends; when Spike encourages her to show off her magic skills, she refuses, as she is very modest.
In the end, Twilight ultimately is all about her friends, because well all know by now that's what my character type is. GUYS MY PERSONAL LJ IS

Dear Princess Celestia,
I'm still not sure how it happened, but it seems like I've arrived on a... spaceship. I know, I know, it sounds even more phony than the Mare in the Moon story, but it's real. Or, at least, I'm pretty sure it is. I'm just going with what they've told me for now, but... I'll keep looking into it. I'll record whatever I find.
The thing that worries me the most, though... they told me Equestria's been destroyed. But I just don't believe that. Not even for a second. I know you and the others are still out there somewhere, safe and sound. Even though I can't let you know of my findings as they happen, I'll be sure to continue my studies on the subject of friendship. I can't wait until I can see you again, so tell you of all my experiences in person.
Right now, I don't have a lesson... or, well, maybe I do. What I'm learning right now is to always believe in your heart and in your friends, even if what people are telling you is the opposite. If you think what you believe is true, that's all you need. Is that good enough? ... Maybe I'll come up with something better right now. I'm sorry, I'm still kind of in the process of trying to wrap my head around all this.
See you soon, Princess-and you too, Applejack, Rainbow, Pinkie, and Rarity.
Your faithful student and friend,
Twilight Sparkle

Twilight stared at the letter she had just written, pencil still in mouth. With a sigh, the young unicorn craned her neck and deposited the pencil next to the paper, which lay next to her new, still untouched Guide. She hadn't the slightest idea how she was going to use that thing; they sure hadn't had ponies in mind while making them. She was sure she'd figure out something to do with it eventually, though... maybe she could find a model or an upgrade that allowed her to write on it like paper? Even with all her magical prowess, there was no way she was going to make that thing work with her hooves. Unless, maybe she got a bigger one...? Did they come in larger sizes in the first place? Would she be able to find a growth spell or something of the sort? Would that even work on a piece of technology she didn't understand?
... That was the least of her worries now, wasn't it? She brought a hoof to her head, thinking how silly it must have seemed, for her to be worrying about the size of her hooves and Guides instead of her friends. At least she could take solace in the fact that one of those friends was already on the ship; she'd seen Fluttershy's name on one of the rooming lists she'd passed by. She'd have to drop in later; she felt so sorry for poor Fluttershy, wondering how long she'd been alone... of all her friends, too! She thought that at least the others could have taken care of themselves without a problem; Fluttershy was scared of her shadow, for crying out loud. She really, really hoped the shy pegasus hadn't run into any sort of trouble along the way.
Well, there was no use moping around or sitting here fretting and worrying. She had to keep true to her word to Princess Celestia. She was the princess's most loyal pupil, after all. She could never let Celestia down. She quickly gathered some things into her bags, but made sure not to fill them up too much. She was headed to the library; she needed all the space in the world for all the books she planned to bring home to her new room. Oh... oh boy.
She was going to be reading for a long time.
Questions?: Why is a pony my sixth character oh my god.
