CHARACTER
✧ NAME: Rise Kujikawa
✧ SERIES: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4
✧ HISTORY:
So, what kind of girls do you like?✧ TIMELINE: Post-true end.
✧ PERSONALITY:
At first glance, Rise's personality is something that can be expected of a former idol. When her Social Link is established, it's noted that she shows "natural, easy friendliness," and she's shown to be very outgoing and vivacious. She's very playful, finding amusement in flirting with Souji and teasing her other friends. Though she can't provide them extra manpower, she more than makes up for it with her pep talks and encouragement from the sidelines. She's easily one of the more animated members among the already colorful cast: she's rather expressive, and won't hesitate to let people know how she feels. When she's happy, she'll jump up and down; when she's angry, she'll stomp her foot in aggravation. Sometimes she can overdo it, though-being dramatic and a good actor are necessary skills for an idol, of course.
However, Rise does continue to hold a bit of insecurity about herself after being rescued, especially about her image as Risette. Time and time again she insists that Risette was just an act, that she wasn't the real Rise-she also gets a little jealous upon hearing a fellow idol is replacing her. She also gets upset when she believes people just want to get close to her to say they know Risette. On one occasion, she even starts to cry because she doesn't know what to do or how to feel.
With the help of her friends, though, she does manage to overcome her dependency and self-image issues; she tells Souji that being around him has given her the strength to stand on her own two feet, to make decisions on her own, and to just be herself. She once recounts something her grandmother said to her to Souji, comparing her (Rise) to a piece of tofu: "Tofu looks weak and fragile, but it's actually pretty resilient. Even though it stands out because it's not like any other food, it can be mixed in with any recipe or flavor." And that's exactly what Rise's all about: she's certainly a strong girl, and despite being different, she'll always have a place with her friends.
In the end, Rise acknowledges that all the facets of her personality are her, and that nothing can change that. The meek and friendless girl, the idol Risette, and the Rise of the Investigation Team-they're all one in the same girl. She best states it herself in each branch of her Social Link. In the first: "I want to find lots of different 'me's. And I want to get stronger so instead of running away from them, I'll welcome them with open arms." In the second: "There's a lot of Rises inside me... I won't try to change them. Instead... I'll let people know that those Rises exist... That's the me I want to be."
✧ ABILITIES/POWERS:
Like her fellow Investigation Team members, Rise has a Persona, Kanzeon (evolved from her earlier Persona, Himiko). Unlike the others, though, Rise isn't a fighter. Instead, Kanzeon allows her to act as support for her friends, providing enemy information and slightly healing the party after battle. A full description of Kanzeon and its abilities can be found
here.
Oh, and if you can call horrific cooking an ability, then she can do that too, I guess.

✧ FIRST PERSON:
I've dealt with a lot of weird things in the past year, but I think this one beats them all. I'm trapped in a dream I can't wake up from, and that my body's just a shell? There's no way I can just take that without doing anything! Not to mention it doesn't make sense... then again, the TV world didn't make much sense either, so...
[at this point, she shakes her head quickly before she cups her hands around her mouth, as if trying to address someone far away.]
Heyyy, whoever's in charge out there! You better let me wake up and go back to Inaba! I've got things to do, places to see, people to hang out with, and promises to keep, and I can't do that when I'm just a vegetable! Once I've gotten those out of the way, I'll totally be happy with coming back here! Please?
...
Anybody?
[she's met with silence, and she follows with a sigh.]
It was worth a try, I guess. [she clenches her hand, trying to look optimistic.] It's okay, Rise! Just do your best! You can't let something like this get to you, yeah? I'll find a way out of here, one way or another, or my name isn't Rise Kujikawa!
✧ THIRD PERSON:
Things around Inaba had certainly changed after Souji's departure. No longer was there constant talk of that gray-haired boy who'd somehow managed to find enough time to help everyone who asked a favor of him, nor was there a group of teenagers running around the streets and playing detective. But even though the boy was gone, his impact had definitely been made-whether it was in the places he'd visited or the people he'd met, there was a noticeable difference that could be seen everywhere in the small town.
Rise didn't have long until her hiatus officially ended. Soon, she too would be saying goodbye to Inaba to resume her career. But that wasn't to say she would never come back; no, it was actually quite the opposite. She threw a fit at Inoue, absolutely refusing to come back unless she could be given a flexible schedule that allowed her to visit as much as possible. She'd grown far too attached to the town to leave it again; she'd met friends she could never leave behind-true friends, who helped her find her true self, who she fought with to the end, who she saved the world with.
They'd reacted positively to Rise's decision once she'd finally told them (Yosuke, especially). "Go out and show them the real Rise we know!" they'd exclaimed. And that's exactly what she'd planned on doing. While she accepted Risette was as much a part of her as any other, there were certainly more "her"s that resided within her. She wanted to share them all with the world-and it was thanks to her friends that she was even able to discover them in the first place.
... But would things ever be the same? The murders were over, and life was back to normal-minus their leader. As she thought about her friends, her eyes wandered over to her desk, where a single picture sat. It was the one she and her friends had taken right before Souji had left. Just looking at the picture reinvigorated her as the memories and promises they'd made together flashed through her head. That's right... no matter what, they'd definitely all meet again someday. For that reason, she couldn't let herself be down. There was no way she could ever allow herself to face Senpai like that!
