"That cunning perception is your personality... but you are too sharp and your thoughtfulness can even corner others. You corrupt other people."
Today Akuma to Love Song (The Devil and Her Love Song) was released by Serenus-Dreamers and StarryHeaven again... and while reading this chapter, I was suddenly struck by how much I thought it'd so be the type to become really successful both in Japan and overseas. In other words, I'd definately spend my money on the series if it were liscenced, and think others would too.
It is a shoujo manga, and seems to have the shoujo love triangle conventions, the bulliesbut it goes beyond the cliched depictions and development of plot and characters. The protagonist, Maria Kawai is an infallibly honest girl with a merciless tongue and the story begins as she transferred to Touzuka High School after being expelled from elite St. Katria Girls' School. Her seemingly unrepentance causes many people around to hate her despite her well meaning intentions and she is the target of a few bitchy girls who take offense to her blunt commentary. However, the two males she does happen to befriend don't merely accept her as she is but also teaches her the value of change and looking at the world in a different way.
Underneath the deceptively light characterisation of Yuusuke Kanda, lies a more wise and flawed character which at this point I understand but can't really out into words. He teaches Macria the art of "Lovely Transformation" as a means for survival but with Maria being who she is, the ends up creating her own fearsome version of it which only serves to garner more hate for her. However, after the chapter with Meguro where helps her she reaches a conclusion - "lovely transformation" is a way of seeing the world and turing something distasteful into something adorable.
It seems that Nippachi may become Maria's friend too?
Well, we'll see, I suppose. Definately love the manga. A must read as a shoujo.
Right now I'm rooting for Yuusuke and Maria~ That's why I squealed like a maniac upon seeing the cover for volume 2. But I think it'll end up being Meguro and Maria. It seems to be leaning toward that way anyway.
