I saw it in an 80% full theater last night and all I can say is it has lived up to what you have been hearing. Yeah, I could quibble about some stuff and overly-flashy CGI melts my brain sometimes (part of the reason I have avoided the TRANSFORMER movies) but on the whole it was the best mix of comedy, action and homage I have see in a LONG time. The new characters keep enough of what we loved about them to keep them identifiable and feeling like the family you have known and loved so long.
Yeah, there are some of the usual bullshit Hollywood cliches strewn around (Which always annoys the hell out of me. Thank GOD there wasn't a kid and a dog.) but it works. And having Nimoy involved was the perfect touch to christen the new series. Abrams did a good job and and I can't fault him for the final product.
My only HUGE bitch? I hate the new bridge. It DOES look like a Mac threw up. But I will live. :-P
Off to Atlanta to play dress up and look ridiculous...
