Customer Service.
I've been doing this for most of my working life. In either retail, or here at REMC answering the telephones. It has it's good days, not so good days, and downright god awful days. So 13 years at REMC.. has definitely seen all 3 of those happen.
Today. It's the latter of the 3.
Let me explain what just happened here, and why I say today is a God Awful Day.
I answer the telephone and a customer wants to shut service off at such and such an address, she also gave me the name of the customer (it wasn't her). Before I even get into anything with her, she tells me she has power of attorney for the woman who has the service in her name. Ok, that is fine, we'll get to that in a little bit. The address she gave me is not coming up in the system. So in order for us to proceed, i explain to this woman what I need from her. The correct physical address, an account number OR Meter number. Do you have any of these? No!!! I do not! Can't you look it up by the name? I said yes, I can look it up by the name, but in order to confirm the location of the property/address, I need ALONG with the name, one of those 3 things.
She didn't like this. She felt that i should be able to terminate the service by just the name. When the addresses don't match, I don't want to shut off a service if there are multiple accounts in the persons name and shut off the wrong one. Not to mention, I couldn't really discuss the account with her because she wasn't on the account. We have Red Flag rules to go by and I was just doing my job. Eventually I was able to get the account holder on the phone who was 90, to confirm it was ok that i speak with the woman I had on the phone to terminate service. After the inital woman told me that i couldn't get her on the phone because she's old, and has alzheimer's etc. I just needed to verify the DOB/and or SS#
But apparently because of this, I was giving the old woman a heart attack...
I'm such a horrible person, and I should NOT be in the position I am in because I'm rude and just downright Horrible.

This actually hit me hard.
I was doing my job. Not trying to be difficult..
In other news...
I'm not getting any bites on my photography business... With that being said, I've discounted sessions incredibly a lot... the special I'm running right now...
