especially for Ruby

Yesterday afternoon I had to meet with yet another (and thank god, final) presentation group to plan what we are going to say today about Judith Butler's Gender Trouble. This will be about my 10th presentation on this book. Anyway, during our meeting, there was some discussion of how to correctly pronounce Monique Wittig's last name. One woman in the group, who is also studying French, said that she, too, had no idea, because it is not really a French last name. And then she said, "Maybe she was married to a German." Considering the topic of our presentation and this woman's uninformed assumption, I just about died laughing (in my head, of course, because otherwise it would have been a bit rude). I said, "Um, Wittig was a lesbian."
