Reflecting on babysitting has led me to remember this babysitter my brothers and I had. Her name was Peggy and she had this shock of curly, orange hair. I have no idea how old she was, but probably in her early 50s. She would always come on her bike with the AA stickers on it. I remember wondering what "Easy does it" meant and why you'd have a sticker like that on your bike. She was originally from Florida and she would freak me and my brothers out by telling us how large the cockroaches were there. I remember thinking that I NEVER wanted to live in Florida. Peggy was cool, weird, but cool. She was smart, too, or my brothers and I were exceptionally dumb. We would play "barber" and take turns combing Peggy's hair. Then Peggy would deem one of us the best barber of the evening and that meant that person got to comb her hair some more. We also played the "silent game" endlessly. The object of the game was to see who could be quiet the longest. We would all sit around staring at each other and making funny faces trying to get the others to burst out laughing. I wonder what became of Peggy.
My appeal to you: Please share your favorite babysitter story.
