A missive?

For the past several weeks my MSN name has been: "Do yourself a favour and don't rely on anyone. Ever."

I'd like to add an addendum to this. "Don't let anyone do anything for you or try to help you out. They'll just want something in return eventually."

This isn't coming from a place of bitterness at all. It's merely realism. Think back to how many times you relied on someone and were let down. Think back to how many times you've heard the phrase. "C'mon! I just did for you! You can't do this ONE thing?" It's things like that that really piss me off. This is what has led me to understand the value of independence and autonomy.

I say be as independent as you possibly can. Try to do everything you can on your own. Don't take favours from anyone. This way it's yours and yours alone. Something you can be proud of.

Call me bitter, call me what you will. But I'm just saying it's the better way to do things.
