Anyone want to guess what it's doing outside?

It's raining. As it has every day for at least the past two weeks. I've lost count. I have a pool that takes up most of my backyard, you sink an inch in mud walking through the front yard, and the mosquitoes are the size of cherry tomatoes. I'm not kidding.

We went to see Evan Almighty today. Very cute. Definitely recommended if you want a laugh or several. Also recommended: Akeelah and the Bee (movie), Fable: The Lost Chapters (PC game, although there's a non-Lost Chapters version for the X-box, I think), the entire Harry Potter series (although I'm preaching to the choir for *most* of my friendslist on that one). Anyone want to know what I've been doing with my time the past week or so? Well, month in the case of HP.

Other bits and pieces in bullet form:

+ Got to see A Few Good Men thanks to L., who came down from Calgary to see it and left her husband to fish, foolish man. JA was fabulous and LDP was riveting. The rest of the cast was excellent as well. And then I got to stay up horribly late and talk to L., which I haven't had a chance to do in ages. Like, six or seven years worth of ages. It was an excellent weekend.

+ Attempted to go to the Can't Stop the Serenity showing in Arlington. Followed Googlemap directions exactly, came to the end, and were smack in the middle of a sleeping residential neighborhood. Then we got to sit for 30 minutes on Loop 12 only 3/4 of a mile from our exit as they dealt with a wreck . . . complete with cops coming up behind us and all three lanes of packed traffic having to find a way to get out of *their* way. All in all, though, it wasn't a bad trip, my nerves aside. Will was cheery about the whole thing and helped me navigate. This was our second complete failure to get around the metroplex in one week thanks to crappy directions and the fact that I-35 rather abruptly goes off in one direction while becoming Loop 12 in another. That place is a rat warren. An overcrowded rat warren. I expect daily to hear they've all eaten one another.

+ Have been keeping up *mostly* with novel_in_90. I'm a bit behind, but by doing 1200 words a day this week, I'm going to be back where I should be. Sadly, I hate the story I'm writing. All the characters remind me unpleasantly of Percy Weasley. Given that I like Percy, that's not a good sign. Plus, it's just boring. However, I'm going to keep writing it until something better comes along.

+ Will had a cardiologist appt. due to having high blood pressure at his annual check-up. Cardiologist found nothing wrong, so it's his medicine causing it. It's fluctuated up and down for years. He's also got a dermatologist appt. for a cyst just above his eyebrow *and* a dentist checkup to get fillings, both on the same day. That'll be the high point of his summer, I'm sure.

+ Decided to go on vacation rather than buying permanent LJ account, partially due to the shenanigans earlier. Um, not that I can plan a vacation for two on $150, not being a miracle worker, but the $150 will cover a night in a hotel and one of our tickets to Sea World. It's a pretty big drop in the metaphorical bucket of my vacation-ready money. The itinerary at this point, thanks in part to kaytee4ever, who knows San Antonio, is to drive down (5 1/2 hrs), go to Sea World that day, spend the night, hit SA Zoo and the park by it that I can't remember the name of the next morning, River Walk that night, probably with dinner at a nice restaurant, then the Alamo the next morning. The second day's afternoon is fairly open because I don't know how long we'll spend at the zoo; if we have time, we may go to that old marketplace (the Mercado, I think?) and do some swimming in the hotel pool. On our way back, I want to stop in Austin to see the Capitol building. I might time it so we can see the bat bridge, although that would mean making most of the drive back after dark. I don't know. It might depend a bit on what else we can find to do in Austin, because the Capitol building doesn't take *that* long.

+ Brother is back living with us. I told him any and all animals must be fixed, de-flea/ticked, and house trained. Am somewhat hoping he'll stay this time and devote his money/energy to getting out of the huge debt hole he's dug for himself and getting himself back to college. Honestly, as long as he pays a little rent and doesn't bring flea-ridden animals that he doesn't have time/interest for, I'm happy for him to stay as long as he wants. I *want* him to get his life on track, and staying here works for that because his home-related bills are minimal.

+ Cardiologist had a wee yorkie . . . *had* to be a miniature or teacup or something, because it could have lay down in my two hands put together. Absolutely adorable! I want one. I keep reminding myself A) 4 animals already + vet bills, B) Brenna would sit on it and not even notice, C) Will is too clumsy for an animal that potentially fragile, D) the *cats* are all bigger and would probably terrorize it, E) 4 animals already + vet bills.

I suppose I must go make dinner. What a pain.
