For those of you who are interested, below are the two plot bunnies that came to me as the original inspirations for this story. But it really felt like either idea would be a much longer story and I didn’t want to start yet another WIP when I already have two massive ones hanging over me; so, I nixed them both in favor of posting the above little piece of crack instead. I would, however, be interested in hearing which of the below two scenarios you would most like to read just in case motivation happens to strike me at some time in the future.
(Or, alternatively, I would love to read anything you care to write in response to either of these prompts!)
Idea 1: Tony has annoying skin that tends to bruise easily, which is why the Iron Man suit is perfect for him. Unrelatedly, Steve and Tony are fucking like bunnies, but Steve is always super careful in bed so as not to leave any unintended marks on Tony’s body. This is because a) he’s still unsure of his massive muscles in bed and b) he doesn’t want to ruin the team dynamics by letting everyone know he’s doing the dirty with Tony. But it just so happens that all the other Avengers, having all newly moved into Stark Tower, are starting to see some of the totally innocent and non-sexual bruises on his easily-marked skin and therefore they think that he’s being Unsafe In Bed. They all want explain to him about safe sexual practices or in some other way try to let him know that they are There For Him. So, of course, they corner Steve and try to talk to talk him into talking to Tony about it. Possibly they also try to uncover the identity of this mysterious abusive lover. All this makes Steve increasingly nervous and Tony increasingly irritated, until finally Tony snaps and tells them all what’s what. Much to Steve’s chagrin.

The Avengers, having all newly moved into Stark Tower, are starting to see some of the totally innocent and non-sexual bruises on his easily-marked skin. Just his luck, this month they kind of happen to look like sexual marks, but that’s actually really sad because Tony just happens to not be getting any right now. The Avengers each try to have a talk with him about being Safe In Bed and it starts driving Tony crazy. Steve happens to be the last one to come to him, and therefore becomes the proverbial straw on the camel’s back; and Tony finally can’t take it anymore and decides if everyone thinks he’s getting beaten up as a result of ridiculously adventurous sex, he might as well get some benefit from it. Much to Steve’s chagrin.
