Stroke Of Midnight Halloween Special Part Two

Nov 01, 2010 21:30

Okay. So I know it's not Halloween anymore...I know it's not even October anymore. But I am still posting my Halloween one shot. Part one has to be tweaked since I tweaked this part and now they don't line up exactly. XDDDD

Sorry guys! But enjoy!

“The poor boy. It could be stress…”

“But he looks perfectly healthy, no signs of lack of sleep or lack of nourishment…”

“Could it be a brain tumor? They said it happened suddenly…”

“We would need an MRI to be certain. Make sure he is scheduled for one as soon as possible!”

“Yes Doctor. I’ll do that right away!”

Footsteps retreated hurriedly, low heels against linoleum. Roy frowned, puzzled over the hardness of the mattress under him and the roughness of the blankets covering his body. There was a moment where Roy lay there, not wanting to open his eyes yet being able to tell what was happening around him. Voices mingled together in a weird hush and a strong smell seemed to linger everywhere.

Disinfectant and bleach….

A groan of despair slipped past his lips as the two smells combined together and him mind finally connected them. ‘The hospital…Why am I in the bloody hospital?’ He opened his eyes, squinting as the bright white lights assaulted eyes that had been used to the darkness behind closed lids. Roy blinked rapidly, tears pooling under his eyes from the intensity of the lights, before everything slowly came into focus.

“Oh good. You’re awake.” a smooth woman’s voice said, relief thickening the barely there accent of the crimson eyed woman gazing at him kindly. Roy moved his head in order to see and blinked at the woman, looking no older then 23, dressed in a doctor’s white coat and holding a chart in her hands.

Roy blinked at the woman doctor, noting that she was rather pretty. Pitch black hair held back in an elegant bun with long bangs floating down to softly cover half her face giving it an innocent appearance. Crimson eyes, a color that looked natural and not produced from contacts, looked at him patiently as if she knew he would be disoriented after waking up. “Where am I?” Roy asked the woman, voice quiet. She smiled at him and pushed back her bangs with an elegant, pale hand.

“You’re in the pediatrics ward of Shugosha (protector) Hospital.” the woman said gently. She walked up to the side of the bed so Roy would be able to look at her without craning his neck. “I am Doctor Elizabeth Elric. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” Roy extended his hand, manners coming to the front in his weakened, tired state.

“Nice to meet you Dr. Elric” Roy said, taking Eli’s small hand and shaking it “You can call me Roy. I hate it when doctors call me Mr. Mustang alright?” He gave Eli a charming smile, eyes brightening when he caused the pretty doctor to laugh. He wanted the woman to smile and it wasn’t about attraction at all. It was more about protectiveness, an urge to keep this fragile and kind looking woman smiling and happy. It seemed that Dr. Elizabeth Elric was one of the few people in the world that gave off the impression of an angel.(A/N: Someone actually said something like this to me. So sweeeeet right?!)

Eli smiled sweetly and shook Roy’s hand before taking a step back. “So Roy it is. You may call me Eli if you wish. I prefer to have a less formal interaction with my patients.” Roy smiled and nodded.

“How about I call you Eli-isha? It is a suffix for medical doctor in Japanese.” Roy said, worried that she would find it odd. A lot of people outside of his circle of friends found the suffixes he used weird. However, he found that his fear was unfounded when he saw his doctor give him a radiant smile.

“I don’t mind that at all Roy-kun” Eli said happily “I thought I would never meet a person who knows about Japanese culture beside my husband and his older brother….” A haunted look, dark and out of place on her cheerful face, took over for a second before it was wiped away.

Roy frowned but felt as if he didn’t know his doctor enough to ask about anything that would cause such a shadow to appear. But it was obvious that the shadow had something to do with her brother-in-law. He wiped the frown of his face with a smile as he directed his attention to the fact that his doctor actually knew about Japanese suffixes and cultures and that he was actually in a hospital. “So why am I in the hospital? Eli-isha?”

Eli smiled and looked down at the chart, though concern flickered in her uniquely colored orbs. “You collapsed at school, shivering and breaking into a cold sweat. We were unable to wake you so it was decided to let you wake naturally.” She looked up and smiled at Roy soothingly. “You are going to be scheduled for an MRI just to make sure there is no critical reason for your collapse. ” Roy nodded, understanding the need to be sure. Eli looked over the chart once more before turning to Roy with a questioning look in her eyes “Do you know what could have caused your collapse? Anything that might have caused you to faint, stress or worries?” Roy shook his head, shrugging. He knew that it was a serious question. Especially since he had collapsed out of nowhere. He couldn’t even give a reason, all he had been thinking about lately was Edward.

Roy closed his eyes as he thought back to the last thing he remembered before waking up to white walls and a sweet doctor. In his mind’s eyes he could picture Edward, standing under a tree beside a rushing river. The clouds, for once, were parted and letting the silver light of the moon caress the forest. Ed looked tired, eyes shadowed and face pale. He had been looking at the water, body for once relaxed and free of the tension of always being hunted. He had watched for a moment, fascinated by the way that the moonlight dyed the normally gold hair silver. But then Ed had suddenly bent forward, arms wrapping around his middle as a gasp of pain slipped past his lips. Roy had let out a gasp, wanting to help his friend but being unable to move from his place. But Ed seemed to have heard him, turning to him with scared and pain filled eyes. The blond had reached for him, face paling even more and eyes glittering in the moonlight. Full lips had parted and Ed had shouted one word before everything disappeared in a burst of white light.

“Roy!”

Roy opened his eyes, looking at his doctor and hiding how much it had unnerved him to hear Ed calling for him as if he’d disappear if they didn’t see each other. “I really can’t say that there was a lot of stress. It’s all just normal high school stuff on my mind right now. Could this just be a one time thing?”

Eli frowned but nodded reluctantly. “Seizures and fainting spells are at times common with teenagers. It has been linked to the rapid growth of body, mind, and of the sudden increase of hormones that puberty brings.” Roy blushed as he pictured what those hormones had caused him to dream of. Images of a sexy naked blond, hair loose and spread out across the pillows of a large bed. Bare skin glistening with sweat and red lips practically crimson and swollen from endless hungry, but tender kisses. Gold eyes darkened to amber in lust and cheeks flushed from both embarrassment and passion.

He coughed and shook his head to get rid of the sinfully delicious image. He then looked at Eli and blushed darker when he noticed the knowing look in her eyes. Instead of commenting on what Roy was obviously thinking about, Eli merely nodded and said “We scheduled you for an MRI just in case though. It is truly better to be safe then sorry.” Roy nodded and looked around his room, scrunching his nose at the too white walls and the strong smell of medicine and too sterile air.

“Have you called my mom?” Roy asked, suddenly concerned about his mom and what her reactions would be at the news that her son was in the hospital. Eli smiled softly, as if sensing her patient’s troubled thoughts.

“Don’t worry Roy-kun” Eli soothed. She walked to the bed and placed her hand on Roy’s chest, pushing slightly to get the hint through that he should lay down fully on the bed. As he did she pulled the covers up and tucked him in, like his mother hadn’t done since he was five. “We called her and apparently so did the friend you were with when you collapsed.” Eli smiled again and brushed back his bangs tenderly “She will be here as soon as possible. As you know, she was at a convention in the next town over and will be here later then expected. You should sleep for a bit more, your body needs to rest and heal itself from any damage.”

Roy nodded, eyes drooping and body relaxing at Eli’s gentle touch. Her voice lulled him to sleep and visions of a smiling Ed holding out his arms to him and laughing in pure delight caused him to willingly surrender to the blackness of sleep.
