Doctor Who (spoilers)
If you don't want to be spoiled for either the Christmas Special, recent Dr. Who news or don't want to hear me rambling on about Dr. Who please skip...
Last night we watched the Dr. Who Confidential that introduced the viewers to the 11th Doctor. I'm really not sure what to think of the guy. Steven Moffat made a big point of saying that this guy was brilliant. He said that as soon as he walked in the door, they knew he was the next Doctor. That even his hair was perfect. What? I don't know about his acting, but that hair has got to go. They showed various clips of him acting and nothing really impressed me or made me think - wow, look at him! But they have been picking actors for the show for over 40 years, so I'm sure they know what they are doing. Right?
It was interesting to hear Tennant talk about how becoming the Doctor changed his life. It was cool to hear that the actor gets to pick what their Doctor will wear. Also, the crazy secrecy surrounding picking the new Doctor. Russel T. Davies said that he was jealous for those who got to work with the new guy. Really? Or was he just saying that to help garner excitement for the 5th series? It's going to be hard to top Tennant's portrayal of the Doctor. Tennant was absolutely brilliant - geeky, powerful, full of energy... yeah, pretty much the perfect Doctor. I am looking forward to the next four specials, but am also dreading them as they will spell the end out for 10. For example, The Next Doctor was really good, but it was very evident that this Doctor is near the end of his life. The last part was so sad, when he said his companions had broken his heart. And that some had forgotten him. So, sad!
On the positive side, I am confident that Tennant will have a good career after portraying the Doctor. Peter Davison went on to do many, many British movies and series. He's young, and seems to be in demand. Hopefully he and Russel T. Davies will work together again, because when they do it's freaking amazing.
