Blurr's Side Story 2

Nov 12, 2011 10:26

Sorry this took so long to get out. I know you all were worried about Blurr. There's only going to be one more story before he joins Siren's Song.

Thanks to littleni for being my beta.

Also sorry for the format I copied and pasted from another program and I tried to fix it but it doesn't seem to be working.

Blurr slowly opened his eyes as he regained consciousness. He felt light as if he
didn’t weigh anything at all. Looking straight ahead he found he was looking up
at long rows of kelp swaying gently back and forth. That meant he had to be
lying down so he started to sit up. Only problem was that he couldn’t move. He
tried to move other parts of his body and found he couldn’t move anything. Then
he realized why he felt weightless he couldn’t feel his body at all. He was all
alone in a forest of kelp and he couldn’t move or feel. Unable to do anything
else he started to cry out in frustration and despair.

“Oh good you’re awake finally.” The face of an old man appeared in his line of
sight.

“I...um....can’t feel my body....please help me, sir.” Blurr begged the older man.

"Oh yes, you see I can heal only a little. I fixed all the broken bones including
the tail, may the Sea god curse the men who did that, but you see I can not
block pain very well. And you will have to still recover from the injuries the
bones have to mend a bit and so I blocked all feeling so you wouldn’t feel
pain. Would you rather I removed the block? It will be might painful I warn
you.” The old man spoke in a fast ramble.

“No thank you sir.” Blurr answered he had experienced enough pain at the hands of
the torturer. When the pain did not come and as well as any type of feeling he
relaxed knowing his preference had been met. Now he focused on the old man. He
couldn’t see anything but the face so he looked to the man’s hair color. It was
a very pale blue. So the man was a priest. How high a priest would be determined
by the man’s harness which Blurr could not see.. “You’re a priest, sir?” He
asked hoping that would lead the man to give him more information.

“Yes, I am Priest....oh wait you don’t need to know my name do you? You are going to
call me master like a good slave right?” Now it seemed the old man was pleading
with him.

“I....” Did he say he still had a master? He couldn’t say for certain his master was
dead. However his master had intended to send him to a priest in the Kelp
Forest. He looked around as best he could and realized he was surrounded by
kelp....could it be. “Forgive me sir, but I am uncertain how I came here and
how you became my master. Would it please you to remind me?”

“Oh oh of course poor boy. I always send Tyrone to look for useful things for me
back in the kingdom proper. Well can you imagine my surprise when he brought me
you? I mean I’ve not had a slave since I was a small fry. You of course give up
all your possessions when you enter the priesthood and well slaves are
possessions you see. And while the Order does have slaves of it’s own they are
all communal, no slave is owned by one individual and well the Order doesn’t see
the need for a slave out here.” The priest explained.

“They won’t even give me an acolyte . Just because the last seven have died. It wasn’t
my fault! I tried to warn them about the dangers outside the shrine! But they
keep sending me youngsters who think they know better!” The priest complained
and then frowned. “Where was I?” He paused for a few moments. “Oh! Yes I
remember so Tyrone brings me this slave, that’s you, and the slave is young and
strong and best of all male! Sure he’s a little beat up...well almost dead
really but my small healing powers will have him....oh I mean you as good as new
in no time. So now you tell me how did you end up in the Eastern Pit? Tyrone
tells me the castle guards threw you in.”

“Excuse me, sir but who is Tyrone?” Blurr was still not convinced enough to call the man
master.

“Oh he is whale shark I raised after his pod all died of a strange disease.” the old
man answered.

Whale shark? Of course! That was the creature that carried him in it’s mouth....er his
mouth. So he was in the Kelp Forest! Was this the man his master meant to send
him to? What did it matter? His master had abandoned him and this free man was
claiming him....what was he thinking arguing with a freeman?

“Forgive me master. I shouldn’t have argued with you. I shouldn’t have needed you to tell
me anything. Please punish me.” Blurr hoped the old man wouldn’t return feeling
to his body.

“Oh not to worry boy.” The old man smiled and then rubbed his hands together in a
gleeful way. “I am just glad to hear it now. And truth be told I don’t mind
telling stories. But I would really like to hear yours now. Please tell
me?”

“Yes, master.” Blurr was not sure he would be able to adjust to an older merman
pleading with him. It greatly reminded him of his master those first few months
before he realized that even though he was younger then Blurr he could still
order him around. It hurt to be reminded of his former master but he thought
perhaps he deserved a little pain for failing his former master and then being
rude to his new one. So with twinge of pain he told the story of how his master
had ordered him to leave how he disobeyed and ended up in the dungeons and then
in the Eastern Pit.

“Oh my poor boy.” His new master did something very strange. He reached over and
gently stroked Blurr’s forehead. “I remember the Seventh Prince. He was the last
of the sirens right? Such a shame he’s gone. You know I never liked that the
King got rid of all the sirens. And I’m not the only one either! The whole Order
has prayed for years that more would be born.” He sighed. “Now boy I’m going to
ask you a difficult question and I need you to give me an honest answer or else
you will be punished.” The old man dangled his former master’s amulet in front
of his face. “How did you come to have this in your harness?”

“My master....my old master he gave it to me. He said it would protect me from
predators.” Blurr answered nervously.

“Well that’s just crazy! It would protect only the person it was made for and I know
for a fact it was made for the Seventh Prince. Because I was the one who made
it!” His new master started to curse and then moved out of sight. Although Blurr
could still hear him. “I mean really giving something like this away before
heading out on his own? Well if there was any chance of him living on his own
out in the wilds it’s gone now!” His new and now rather scary master appeared in
his vision.

“Tell me in your honest opinion was your master mentally deficient in anyway?” His
master asked.

“I don’t know what that means, master.” Blurr answered stumped by the big
words.

“I am asking was he stupid? Like someone who’s been hit in the head too many
times?” His master asked.

“No, master. He was very smart! He spoke all the merfolk dialects and he read a lot
of tablets all the time he read.” Blurr answered hoping to defend his master’s
honor this time.

“Hmm...then....oh my....” His master laughed. “Tell me boy did you believe this would protect
you?”

“Yes, master. Although I was too afraid to try and make it to the Kelp Forest by
myself. I thought I would get lost.” Blurr answered truthfully.

“Oh that stupid, silly prince.” His master sighed and ran his hand through his hair.
“You must be a truly amazing slave. You see the prince gave you this so that you
would have the courage to make it on your own. He assumed that with the right
confidence you could make it. He sacrificed the one thing that would keep him
alive.”

“You.....mean....he....gave...up.....his....life....for....me?”
Blurr couldn’t feel his body but he was certain it was shaking. “Why would he do
that? I’m nothing! I’m not even a proper personal slave! I’m just a labor slave
who thinks to much!”

“Well he saw something special in you and now it’s my pleasure to find out what that
is. So tell me what’s your name boy?” His master asked. It was like the anger in
him before had been instantly replaced by smiles and happiness.

“Blurr, if it please you, master.” Blurr answered automatically. His mind was still
spinning with the knowledge that his master went to his death to save Blurr’s
live.

“Well I think you need some more rest so I’m going to put you into a nice slumber
again. When you wake up you’ll be all healed and able to move around again.” His
master’s eyes twinkled. “And I plan to put your to work then, so enjoy this
sleep and leave your worries behind.” His master leaned forward and brushed his
lips over Blurr’s. Before Blurr could protest the physical display of affection
he had slipped into peaceful oblivion.
