Books I want to read

Jan 16, 2007 16:23

For some time now, I have been stockpiling books, for "reading later when I have more time". Well, surprise, surprise, I have not read them, because there is no more time. So I'm gonna start now. First up will be some stuff on the psychology of crime and criminal behaviour. Other stuff in the pile includes:

Non-Fiction.
*two books on the Templars and Cathars. The languedoc (sp) region in france and the annihilation of the last traces of the "heretical" christians.
*a book on the American War of Independence
*serial killers in general is a real thing of mine. I need to re-read 2 books called: A Mind to Crime, about physiological changes believed to be found in the brains of some pathological criminals, and Brainsex, about sexual differences in the brains of each gender and transgenders etc.
*Sexual Homocide: Patterns and Motives. This is a book used in profiling, or behavioural analysis as it is called by the FBI. Also one should really read DSM IV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diagnostic_and_Statistical_Manual_of_Mental_Disorders) in conjunction with it.
*MUST read Fashions in the Age of the Black prince in a more than flicking through manner. And research headwear.
*The History of britain, Simon Schama - from the BBC series
*Book on QE1, probably by Alison Weir.

Fiction
Oh crap, so much to read, so little time. I shall list authors rather than specific books if appropriate.
Read The Silmarillion. Again. All the way through.
Charlaine Harris - read one of hers and found it fabbo fluff.
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy - an trilogy in 5 parts.
Terry Pratchett - cos I love the Discworld
Assorted other sci fi. Mr B is a complete fiend, and has 3 bookcases of novels i've never even heard of at times (see the entry about greatest scifi books that i had to get him to do cos i was all WTF). We will be starting with Robert Heinlein. Yes, I know. And he wanted me to read the Dune books, but I don't think I will be able to bring myself to start a set of books where the story was never finished.....

I shall continue another day, or update you as I manage reading.
