Conversation with my father:
Dad: Y'know why I'm going to vote for Obama?
Me: No, Dad, why are you voting for Obama? *thinking I'm in for it now*
Dad: Cause he's from Illinois.
Me: Um... kay...
Dad: Look. Blagojevich (governor) is a crook, Ryan (former governor) is a crook, every politician in Illinois is a crook 'cause nobody in Chicago gives a shit about what happens in the rest of the state, or even in Washington. And that's where everyone in Illinois lives, and that's who elects the governor.
Me: Um....
Dad: So you already know he's a crook. Nobody's gonna be surprised!
Me: Wow. *eyeroll*

The last election occurred while I was in Japan, and I have to say that I was embarrassed to go to school the next day, to be representing my country in front of the youth of Japan. If I was in Japan today, I would be so proud to be an American, I'd probably crap my pants. Not just because he is the first African-American president (even though that's AFUCKINGMAZING), not just because he is a senator for Illinois, not just because he's a breath of fresh air and has not been part of the political "machine".
But, because he is the first president in my lifetime that I trust will guide this country out of the darkness into the light, into the new era on the rapidly approaching horizon, and into a new future for America.
So, to those that are concerned about the next four years (and the four after that):
