Episode Review: The Christmas Invasion

Feb 03, 2008 20:49

Back when I first watched this episode, I was such a huge Nine fan that it was very hard for me to get attached to the New Doctor. He had a very weird accent that I didn't understand (I can handle Mancunian fine, but Ten's accent plus the way he was speaking so very fast was brand new to me) and he just wasn't MY Doctor. Much like Rose, I felt very strange with him, like he wasn't the man I'd got so attached to over the entire first season.

Not to mention that anyone, and I mean anyone, even David Tennant, doesn't look sexy in that type of pjs and dressing gown. Seriously. ;)

But anyway, I just rewathed it last night, for the first time since I saw season 2 entirely. And you know, I quite like it after all. I like the idea that Rose, Mickey and Jackie have to handle it all on their own while the Doctor's regenerating. I love Rose's first speech to the Sycorax and their laughter when they realise she's just stringing together a bunch of alien names. I love the Doctor's reaction to the first Torchwood incident he sees.

All in all a good episode, though my one big regret at the time (and still now) is that nothing at all is said about Jack and the adventure on Satellite 5.
