Woohoo!
Found a way to save about 850 euro. I bought a USB wifi adaptor for 20 euro and the desktop is now connected to the internet again. Yay! 850 euro is, after all, a huge part of my next plane ticket to North America... or several pieces of furniture for my apartment. In any case, it was needed, and I'm so glad I can keep this good old desktop for a few more months. :)))))
