Episode Review: Silence in the Library

I like less and less the idea that Steven Moffat is going to be our new guru. Sorry to start the review with such a negative sentence, but this was really his pass-or-fail episode to me, and while I enjoyed the episode to some extent, I didn’t find it amazing, extraordinary, breathtaking, or russelltdaviesish in the least. It’s a whole bunch of ( Read more... )

Hello *waves*

I'm glad I'm not just a crazy woman for fearing what Moffat has in store...I really love RTD and his re-invention of Doctor Who. :(

And to be quite honest, looking back at Moffat's episodes that I've seen I didn't really like any of them...and he seems to make a point out of 'stand alone' episodes.

I fear that after RTD leaves so will I - and to be quite honest I still consider it a great feat that I've returned after Martha-omg-i-love-you (opps did I just say that?) I don't mind Martha I just wished it was like Donna-Doctor where we know that they're just friends. Can never have enough friends. Plus Donna rocks!

And I'm sure everyone's realised this but I'd like to say it anyway:

Odd: What about you doctor? There is room for you in the song.

Doctor: I kinda have a 'song' of my own thanks.

Odd: I think your song must end soon.

Then we have "River Song"

Coincidence? I think not. So I assume Ten's going to see River Song die which is funny (not haha funny, like ironic funny, I don't hate her that much XD) seeing as his first meeting with her will be her last with him...but then what do I know :)

Actually, I don't think the Ood was referring to River Song when he mentioned the Doctor's song ending soon. This time I truly believe it's a Rose-mention, because of the Doomsday music that played in the background. If it had been about River Song, I don't think they'd have bothered using Murray Gold's finest piece (yes, I'm a Doomsday fan through and through ;))

I did enjoy very much The Empty Child / The Doctor Dances. And I loved Blink as a stand-alone. But I disliked Girl in the Fireplace for how out-of-character the Doctor behaved there, and all in all it always seems to me like Moffat's focus is very different from RTD's. He doesn't seem that concerned about companions and tends to treat them as tin-dogs instead of fully-fleshed-out character. I can't remember who said it, but I saw someone in a comment mention Moffat was the very first S4 writer not to know what to do with Donna Noble, and that's so true.

We'll see what he does next week, I guess. I suppose we should be giving him the benefit of the doubt until we see how he wraps up the plot he set in last night's ep. But I had too many expectations last night, and they were sort of crushed. :/

Just wanted to say: while I don't think it refers to the Ood, I agree that River Song is likely to die next week, and I like the idea that their first meeting is also their last. Very Doctor-Who-ish, that. :)
