Five Psych Drabbles
1 Love the Way You Lie - Eminem feat. Rihanna
“And then you strangled her!” Gus pounded the table for emphasis, making Marissa’s abusive husband Gary jump back.
Gary’s face darkened. “She-“
“Probably would have taken you back,” Shawn interrupted, speaking for the first time during the interrogation. His face was closed-off and angry, a look that Gus, or anyone else, rarely saw.
Gary’s face fell. “I loved her.”
Shawn nodded, but it wasn’t kind, wasn’t understanding. “Which is why she always took you back, even though you didn’t deserve it, not once.” Shawn leaned over the table, his voice low. “My best friend would have treated her better. “
2 Behind These Hazel Eyes - Kelly Clarkson
Shawn slid into the passenger seat silently, trying not to make eye contact with Gus, because Gus is Gus, and he had already figured out that something happened. Shawn didn’t want to try to explain something he didn’t understand, that Juliet had kissed him but it might have been an accident because she’s still in there with Declan and she looked maybe sorry or maybe she was upset-
“You ok?”
Shawn slumped down into his seat with a shake of his head. He never imagined kissing Juliet O’Hara would feel like his heart was being shredded by wolverines. It hurt.
3 If I Had You - Adam Lambert
Shawn stumbled, trying to suppress the laughing building up in his chest, because awkward feet weren’t funny. Lacie had latched onto his arm, and he almost sent both of them to the pavement.
“Hey! Steve has a room, so we’re headed there.” José pulled both Shawn and Lacie through the doors of a hotel that was way out of Shawn’s price range, but apparently didn’t even register with the group he’d joined for the night. Although how they’d found each other was lost in a blur or dancing and alcohol and loud music.
Shawn grinned. Partying in LA was awesome.
4 Your Love Is My Drug - Ke$ha
Gus walked into the office, stopping to stare at Shawn. Who was staring at the TV with his head tilted to the side. “What are you doing?”
“Trying to see if this makes any more sense with my head turned like this. I don’t think it does. Turning your head is not a good substitute for acid.”
Gus followed Shawn’s eyes to the screen, watching as the song ended. “Did she just say ‘I like your beard’?”
“Drugs are bad for you, Gus. Take Ke$ha as your example. Also don’t follow her advice for oral hygiene.”
“You know that’s right.”
5 Secrets - One Republic
Juliet stared at him, silent and still.
Shawn stared back, silent and twitching.
“You’re not…”
“No.”
“And you let everybody believe-“
“Come on, Jules, Lassie never really believed me, and I’m about 85% sure Chief Vick doesn’t-“
“I believed you.”
Shawn looked away, not able to handle the betrayal shining back at him. “I know. I know you did. That’s why I had to tell you.”
“What else have you lied about? Did you lie when you said you loved-“
“No! No, Juliet, I - no.”
She looked down.
The silence was deafening.
Neither of them knew what to do next.
(Also, the icon is not indicative of much, other than I don't think I've used this one, and that most of these drabbles insisted on being serious.)
