Today's a big baking day. I've made cheesecake to take along to lunch tomorrow, and am about to start on a batch of sugar cookies. Plus, there's all the yeast baking I'm doing!
As I said on Facebook, I'm really getting into baking with yeast. Phil and I baked some cinnamon rolls earlier this year, and it made me see that it's not the impossible task I always thought it was. I figured that, if I so much as looked at yeast, it would die on me. So, today, I'm making yeast rolls for our dinner, and then Phil's going to help me make some cinnamon bread for tomorrow.
I'd quite like to get a bread machine at some point, but they tend to be expensive and they don't strike me as being as much fun as doing it by hand.
I dislike how most American bread tastes, other than REALLY EXPENSIVE stuff like Brownberry. It's got this oddly sweet, slightly chemical flavor that I don't like. So, if I can make my own bread a la Hillbilly Housewife, I will save a lot of money in the long run. I enjoy it too, so that helps. :)
I sometimes think I'm secretly a housewife stuck in a feminist academic's body . . . except, well, I know I'd go insane if I had to stay home all day and didn't have my intellectual pursuits as well.
