So, thinking about this in terms of shitty decisions that people are sometimes forced to make.
Over 80 people died when a car left the track & flew into the stands. It's still the worst disaster in racing history, & lead to several changes to improve spectator safety.

Here's why: race officials realized that if they stopped the race, people would start leaving, clogging the streets of Le Mans, which would prevent emergency vehicles from arriving. What seems like a heartless decision actually saved many lives.
