This morning as I was backing out to go to work I saw that we had an ongoing mud geyser in our front yard.
The main water line to our house.
We had to turn off the water into our house.
I had to go to work, and I was presenting at an academic conference the U hosted. (Busy day was busy.) Ralph had to go to work and he also was going to run in a 5k charity event.
Though I have a supply of gallon bottles of emergency water, I stopped at the store and got 3 of those 2.5 gallon (9.46L) water bottles with the spigots on them because having a "faucet" is useful.
Ralph came home covered in neon powder and stinking like a homeless person (the water line broke before he could take his morning shower.)
Thank goodness I have a 1.7 liter electric kettle. I was able to use it to quickly heat enough water that he could have a "bath" in the sink and get the worst of the color and stink off of him. I polished off the rest of that bottle by washing brushing my teeth, washing my face, and having my own PTA bath in the sink.
Between coffee, hand/face washing, teeth brushing, and a toilet flush tomorrow morning, I see us easily using up another bottle tomorrow morning. I shudder to think what would happen if we had a couple of kids.
What a luxury it is to have all the water you want simply by turning the tap.
