From comedy, to horror, and music in between. My mom is one of those special individuals in my life, and today celebrates fifty adventurous years. March 10th, 1958
Times were a bit rough back then, but alot more diverse. Growing up in the suburbs of New Jersey, and crazy winters at the time. Yet when you look back at stories from the 50's, it never really examines the times completely.
One of my mom's favorite hobbies is enjoying movies, from sci-fi, horror, to comedy. There is not one film from her childhood she could forget. And even now with her movie collection (still growing), its something she likes to share what inspires her imagination.
(*most notably Godzilla and a bit of monster films)
(*and a bit of retro anime, Astro Boy, Speed Racer and many more!)
(**not sure how it happened, but even dubbed sentai (japanese superheroes) even became something of a fascination. And power rangers included.. hey who didn't watch such crazy shows (and still do?) =D
From movies, to other things, comic books were another hobby she picked up from her mother (my grandma). Of course back then stories were a bit of a "tough steak" to eat sometimes, mostly campy, yet heroic at the same time. Even now, when often times I've picked up a few for her, it rekindles a bit of her time when it wasn't as a dyer way of storytelling.
But if there's one thing she wish that she could be.. being a time traveler. Just visiting various parts in time, even western days (aside from the nightmarish events). Being a part of history, and experience it with warm people.
I can't believe how many years of tests and other hurdles my mom has overcome. A bit at times, some of her stories that she tells me every now and then, remind me of "Thelma & Louise" or even "Fried Green Tomatoes".
Thanks for reading this special entry today. And to your mothers, give them a hug, share sometime with them whenever. (it doesn't have to be some specific day)
