Went to church last night with Lauren - "Gay Church" (as it's often called) turns out to be a Metropolitan Community Church. It was nice, with candles and Christmas carols. I think I can count on one hand the number of times I've been in churches since moving to Michigan; at least this one came with all the good stuff about church, and very little of the bad.
I think we are extending our trip by a day due to the car thing. Don't really know what else to do, because it really ought to be looked at.
We are back at the hotel right now - Christmas lasted about an hour, and then my brother John got off on a rant about illegal aliens and welfare mothers, and how when he lost his job, he went and got another one, even though it meant moving half way across the country, and people should just go get jobs, because it was that easy, because everyone goes to school, so we all have the same opportunities in life. I tried to be good. I tried to ignore him. But his whole "i was laid off for six months so I know what it's like to be poor" attitude really got me. And each time I said something, it just got worse. After a bit I realized this, so I got up and we left.
My dad is really upset that I left. And I hate doing that to him, because he really is trying to make things work (which is saying a lot for him). But the thing is, I don't have to put up with this bullshit anymore. I'm an adult, and I don't live there, so there's nothing that says I have to sit and listen to the bigoted xenophobic snobby bullshit that John was spewing this morning. I'm sure mom is upset too, but John basically refuses to talk to her right now, so it's just icing on the cake.
I suppose the good news is that between cash from mom & dad and checks from grandma, we can pay for whatever needs to be fixed on the car. We may have to get grandma to cash the checks for us, but that shouldn't be an issue.
Anyway. Can't wait to get out of here and be on our way home.
