We are safely in Missouri, and fed, and checked into the hotel. We stopped in Chicago to visit
aboxofeyes and family, and have lunch, which was at a very yummy Mexican place, with coca cola made with real sugar.
It's pouring buckets of rain, and the wind is murderous. Gas is dirt cheap (we've seen as low as $2.69). The hotel is reasonably decent; we've got a fridge, which is damn convenient, given the cooler full of snacks (cheese, carrots, apples, etc) we've had running off the car battery all the way here.
For all that it's the solstice, we were up before dawn, on the road before sunrise, and we drove until it had been dark for some time. We did not see the sun at any point today.
On the not so good news front, the car has started making clunking sounds when going around corners. Past history suggests this is likely a stabar issue, assuming everything was properly assembled last week when they worked on it. Given that tomorrow is Sunday, and Monday is Christmas eve, I dunno what we're doing about that yet.
At any rate, breakfast with the family is at 7:30 CST tomorrow, so that's going to suck. Sometimes I think they forget the meaning of holiday. I've decided that since this is a vacation, no matter how much portions of it end up sucking, I'm not answering SpiralScouts emails, and only answering urgent business questions. I left my work phone at home.
And before we leave here, we have to obtain real Everclear and some local wines, because we don't have to worry about transporting them on a plane :-)
