I'm having a generally bad day. (be prepared for the whiny-ness behind the cut)

I've been sick. For like 5 or 6 days - along with everyone else in my home. And not sleeping well (mostly due to me being sick, but also due to Barry being sick and tossing and turning and coughing all night). And although I'm starting to feel somewhat better, I'm taking a ton of medicine to do it. And every one of the damn things has side effects.

Antibiotics give stomach/intestinal problems. And give me yeast infections. My doctor wrote me a script for diflucan already, but said I might as well wait until I finish the antibiotics before taking it, otherwise it will be pointless.

Prednisone makes it so I can still breathe. But it makes me cranky, and jittery, and it makes me hurt. Additionally, my other asthma meds, like albuterol, also make me jittery and cranky.

I've got a decongestant too - but it makes me nauseous, and it smells funny (and if I take enough of it, I smell like it too)

Not sleeping well doesn't help the crankiness.

And some combination of the meds is screwing with my blood sugar - I'm not very hungry, because I'm sick, but I can't just skip meals, because I keep getting these low blood sugar swings. Which, I might add, make me shaky and irritable.

And the tooth that the dentist just did a root canal on last week has started to ache. I'm probably clenching my teeth or something when I'm sleeping, but damn it, I don't really need anything else to make me grumpy right now.

On top of all that fun, this is the first holiday season that I've been in business where I've found myself thinking "why the hell am I doing this? Is it really worth putting up with this crap?"

I suspect that being sick is adding to this opinion right now, but really...I'm just generally astounded by people's stupidity.

I've had the customers who can't find their way out of a paper bag with a map and a talking GPS unit. I've had customers who randomly decide to send things back. I've had customers who decided to order 7 days before Yule, and then call me up 3 days before to say that they didn't like what they got (or to insist that it somehow wasn't what they were expecting) - and who then got upset because the replacement cards weren't there in time.

I've had people insist that it's my fault the post office takes more than 2 days to deliver some things, and others insist that even though they paid for first class mail (which, according to the post office, takes 3-7 days depending on where you are in relation to where it's coming from), I should have sent it priority, or next day, because I knew it was for a holiday.

Fuck them.

In the hopes of having a more restful day today, I planned to do nothing particularly taxing. e-mail, some handbook manipulation for SpiralScouts, and fixing one of my computers.

I started working on wiping out my worthless, exceedingly unstable windows desktop computer in favor of a new version of linux. My laptop still runs windows, so that should be sufficient for everything I need that I can't duplicate on Linux.

Except that my computer wouldn't co-operate, and since Barry is also sick, he's not co-operating either. He got up and walked out when I asked for help.

Screw him.

I got it working on my own. I'm not as computer illiterate as he sometimes seems to think I am. Just because I'm not an uber-geek doesn't mean I can't get things done.

Sigh...

Maybe I should just give up on today and go back to bed.

Then again, Kevin wants to go see the last Lord of the Rings movie when he gets off work, and we haven't seen it yet...so that might be worthwhile too.

One bit of good news - Marble's ear is finally healing. He's had the collar on for over a week straight now, because every time we took it off before, he scratched his sore open again.

Today, I went to inspect his ear, and one of the two scabs fell off completely. Additionally, fur is starting to grow back in the area too. So, I took his collar off (for which he was grateful enough to try to pull my laptop off the stool by wrapping himself in the cables). Hopefully this will go well enough that he can stay that way.
