So yesterday I got married.

It was rather a spur-of-the-moment sort of thing. Ben and I knew that we'd probably end up getting married before either of us had the patience to plan a real wedding, and had decided that sometime approximately six months into living with each other would at least let us know if we're going to drive each other crazy. So back in August, we set a tentative date of "sometime in December or January".

At the end of November we started looking for a Justice of the Peace, and discovered the city clerk here is one, and put in an email to him about getting married in December.

This past Sunday, the following conversation happened:

Ben: So on Monday, do you want to call up the Justice of the Peace and schedule us for Friday, and then meet me after work to go fill out the form?*
Me: Yes, sure. Why...?
Ben: I just realized that Friday was the 10th, and that would keep with our attempts to make everything happen on the 10th!**

So we did that. Yesterday afternoon we went down to the City Hall (which was completely abandoned due to everybody doing training) and got married by the very nice city clerk. Before and after the ceremony, such as it was, Ben and I sat in the car quoting the Important Priest from The Princess Bride. "Mawwidge, that bwessed awangement, that dweam wif-in a dweam..."

Then we went home, called family for an hour, made stir fry, and watched The Princess Bride.

Some day soon, we'll get around to having the Jormungandr rings made, and then we can have rings!

Some day later, we'll get around to planning and organizing the Scottish/Viking tradition fusion wedding ceremony, and we'll actually get all our family and friends together. At which point we'll just hope that my militant-athiest dad doesn't mock Ben's 6-year-old niece behind her back for praying.

*Massachusetts has you fill out a Notice of Intention of Marriage form at least 3 days before getting married, in order to get the license. We're not sure why.
**So far: Our first date and both of our birthdays and now the paperwork side of getting married. I can only ever see this going poorly when we decide to spawn: "I must be induced TODAY or everything will be ruined forever!"
