The journey continues...
I'm still having a good time, but things aren't going according to plan. Jason has been so insanely busy that I only get to see him for a few hours a day. The rest of the time I'm left home alone to sit and ponder life's mysteries. I could go out if I wanted too, but there's really nowhere to go. Staying in Adelaide is kinda like being at home in the Valley. Once you've been to the mall, met some people, and gone out to eat a few times, there's just not too much to do, especially when you're new in town and alone. But I'm still having fun. Lots of alone time is good. I need some time to meditate and ponder the mysteries of the world like...what the hell am I gonna do with myself when I get home?!
Friday, Jason worked all day so I was left with his roommate Robbo which is always a pleasure, and then Jason's friend Lisa came over to work on the claymation movie that's being shot in the spare room. I also spent some quality time out on the back porch tanning and reading my book. Friday night, Jason had a gig at a comedy club downtown, so I went to watch. Seriously funny stuff. I got to meet lots of interesting people too. Then we came home and Jas, Robbo and I drank ourselves retarded.
Saturday I woke up and puked for 2 hours cause of the aforementioned retardation. So that kinda ruined my day. I spent most of Saturday morning on the couch trying not to die. Then Jason woke up and held me while I cried. Good times. But the afternoon was much better. Jas and I ran to Kmart to buy a birthday present for his friend and then I had my first taste of fast food Chinese. Wok in a Box is my new favorite destination. Everyone should fly over and try it. I highly recommend the fried rice.
Saturday night Jas and I went to a Nepalese restaurant for his friend's birthday. Although I was still feeling pretty shit from the previous night's drinking binge, I did manage to try some interesting new food. The rice and bread were delicious and they quickly became the staple of my meal. But I also tried some kind of curry shrimp which wasn't too bad, and goat, which was also good, but definetely not something I want again soon. Everyone at the party was really cool. There's never a dull moment when almost everyone at the table works in comedy.
By far, the highlight of dinner with the comedians was a segment I like to call, "Make her say it!" I was sitting at the table, casually eating some goat when I heard one of the guys turn to Jason and say, "Your friend's American right?" And he's like.."umm...yeah..." And the guy says to him, "Is she cool? Will she be mad if I ask her something stupid?" And Jason gives him the 'are you on crack' look. So I start chatting with the guy and he asks me if I'm familiar with "Baby Got Back" (Am I familiar with that song...oh the crazy dinner stories I could have told.) But I replied, "Yeah...There's a weird inside joke with that song and some of my friends. Anyways...why do you ask?" And the guy made me sing the first few lines right there at the dinner table in front of everyone. So there I am, sitting at a table full of stand up comedians in a Nepalese restaurant, casually eating goat and singin, "Oh my God! BECKAE! Look at her butt" And everyone cracked up because apparently it's about a thousand times funnier when a real live American sings it.
And I thought dinner in Hiram was a riot.
So now it's Sunday and I'm home alone again. Jason is working for the radio station all day, and then he's got a radio show tonight from 10-midnight so I get to stay home alone for the first time at night. Hopefully Robbo will come home and want to play with me.
Tomorrow I'm leaving to go back to Melbourne. Then Mandi and I are off to Sydney for a few days. I'm really excited about that, because I get to play tourist for a while and see lots of fun stuff.
