It's getting late. Southern California is bathed in evening: stuck in the blue-hued transition stage that comes before true nightfall, when the late sunset gives way to twilight. The air is relatively still. Only a light, refreshing breeze has chosen to frolick playfully through the air, ruffling the leaves of the local vegetation.
A North-bound highway, the long n' straight type. A lone car cruises at a comfortable pace, stirring up some of the desert's dusty sands on its way past. If anyone had been in the passenger seat of that car, they'd have noticed a small TFT monitor unfold from a compartment in the central console and orientate itself to face the driver's seat. The thing appeared to switch itself on of its own accord, and a window popped up on the screen...

"Yo Donna, y'know how the Foundation's given us a break and you wanted to go visit some of your family while we've got a bit of time off? I kinda figured it'd be hard to stuff me into the same plane as you when you wanted to fly over to Europe to go meet 'em, so just to letcha know I'm gonna be away for a bit to visit a Cybertronian friend or two while you're gone. That way, you can go visit your family an' I'll still have something to do to keep me occupied while you're gone. Whaddaya say? :)
'K, 'k... I'll admit saying "whaddaya say?" just then was kinda pointless, seeing as how I'll probably be gone once you get this e-mail. ^_^; I'm going somewhere with 'Page and he wanted us to leave early so we'd have plenty of time to... y'know... go sightseeing n' stuff. Hey, can ya blame me for wanting to make the most outta the first decent break we've had in ages? ;P
Anyhow, will tell you all about it when I get back. ;) In the meantime, enjoy yourself in Europe and say hi to your family for me. ^_^ Have fun, and I'll see you when we get back-- will be missing you. :)
Keep smilin',
~Kaci"

There was a soft sigh that seemed to come from the dashboard of the car; at the same time a display unit behind the steering wheel lit up momentarily. Anyone who happened to see it would've thought it looked like the "bar" display on a music player or sound system. But this display wasn't for a musical sound system, and this was no ordinary car. For a start, there was nobody in the driving seat. In fact, there wasn't anyone in the car at all to watch as the little TFT screen folded back into its allocated slot on the central console.
Nightfall rolled in for real upon California. And on that North-bound highway, the black Celica cruised alone along its shadowy path.
"A shadowy flight..."
