Party - The Afterthoughts

Dec 27, 2005 04:38

So the party turned out to be a lot more fun than I expected it to be, and so did the people.
Naturally, I spent most of the time sitting quietly in the corner (and probably giving the impression of being bored). Nothing could be further from the truth, though.
Simply because I don't talk or don't appear to be doing anything doesn't mean that I'm not having fun and/or enjoying myself. I very much like basking in the presence of interesting people and listening to their chatter (no matter how crazy it is), but, at the same time, I make it a habit only to speak when I can actually contribute something to the conversation at hand. If nothing else, I find that being quiet is the best way to listen...

For me, the people are important, not the chit-chat, and because I don't say anything, it doesn't mean that I'm not interested. All it means is that I'm quietly conducting an intense investigation of the people at hand, and creating a dossier with everything I know about them. Or, I could be just thinking about what they are saying, and noting the information for further consideration.

Lastly, I found the people to be a bit crazy and quirky, but mostly in a good way. Overall, everyone was quite nice and intelligent... and not too drunk. I'm sure their impression of me was quite different (probably thought I was a jerk or a serial killer). :)
