I told you five or four times.

The previous post was inspired by the fact that STONE TEMPLE PILOTS are going on tour, and playing a show two days prior to my birthday in my city. It led me down a road of nostalgia and remembrances that make me feel full of preteen joy and the discovery of music, but also slightly depressed for the caricature that Weiland became.

I guess this is time for my confession: It all started with "Plush." Yes, that one band forever accused of coming in riding on the coattails of other more groundbreaking bands, that band with videos as misogynistic as Sex Type Thing and lyrics as bad as Creep are the reason, truly, that I am exactly who I am. They were my first true Favorite Band and I am planning on attending that show at the Hard Rock with my heart on my sleeve, and my 1993 crush on Weiland in full force. I forgot the degree to which my world revolved around them in the early to mid-nineties. Seriously. I completely forgot about it, or blocked it from my memory, or something. Anyway, I remember now.

For a full in-context discussion on my thought processes, I refer you to an earlier comment. As I sat and compared performances from 1993, 2000, and 2008, I can see how long and how far they had fallen. But, I also fell in love, once again, with the 1993 version of the band. Goddamn, if Weiland in that first video isn't the coolest, sexiest, man alive with the voice of heaven. And kind of a ridiculous cartoon in the second one. And, um, let's hope it was a bad monitor in the third.
