Once … there was a year.
It comes for me like a box, at the first day of each year. The box is empty of course, because the year is yet to fill it. This blog then is part of that filling. There is also the bringing from last years box also. In a few weeks maybe there will be a listing of some of the bringing. That being because I did not pay attention to such a list last year. So its a fresh year and fresh, new things to do in it.
This blog has a direction. I wont say what it is, that being to avoid stating when its really the doing that is important. There is a reading list associated with the blog so lets dive into it.
Freethinkers by Susan Jacoby - A history of American secularism.
Common Sense and The Rights of Man by Thomas Paine - the original writings, and one that fits well with the above.
The Federalist Papers by Hamilton-Madison-Jay … the works collected on the founding of a federal government.
The Intellectual Devotional series of books by David S. Kidder and Noah D. Oppnheim - these books are one page readings in subjects such as World Culture, American History and more. Meant to be read daily much like a religious devotional, only secular.
The rest is filled with books on Story Structure (Writing), Film-Making, fiction of various genera, and science, oriental philosophy and religion, poetry, plays, drawing instruction and more.
There is a direction here. It is left to you reader to glen this from the reading list above. Its all a very liberal list as can be seen. So the box is opened, and the first week has made its passage. Words mark its passing here on these pages. Let this years story begin with … Once there was a year.
