Exciting News...
I wasn't sure if I was going to post this announcement because I didn't want to jinx anything, but then I figured I can use all the prayers I can get. So here it is...
I went to the doc on Thursday and she told me several good things, but the best part was about a drug. It's not a new drug, it's been on the market for seizures and headaches for decades, but recently they have been doing studies on trying it with patients with SMA. They've tried it on 6 children and 11 adults so far, and the results have been really good so far. Some patients have gained up to 48% of their strength back. It can help the patient breathe better, which means less trips to the hospital for pneumonia. :)
Apparently I am a great candidate for this trial and if she gets the chance to try this drug on her patients I am def. one of the ones she wants to give it to. It's funny, her reasons for saying I am the perfect candidate had nothing to do with my medical health (well maybe not "nothing"), but it was my positive attitude and ambition. She was shocked when it came out in conversation that I was going to finish school and have an actual career (no matter what Hawkins says). I thought that was something everyone wanted, I mean, just because we go through life sitting down doesn't mean we have to spend it at home with nothing to do everyday. That would drive me insane.
Anyway, I'll stop rambling and just end this by asking everyone to pray that my doctor is one of the ones chosen to try this medicine and also that it works for me! :)
