Things have been going quite pleasantly of late, though I'm mildly shocked that March is already here. I probably shouldn't be since I've been keeping up with my calendar, but March seems like one of those months that just sneaks up on me, both as a seasonal milestone and because it typically marks the half-way point of the spring term in most universities. Ah well.
I don't have many "events" to report since my last journal post as such, but there are a few developing situations...
1.) I didn't mention this before, but my other grandmother, Nadyne, has been in and out of the hospital since she fell down earlier this spring. Gradually developing health problems due to old age and natural wear-and-tear are catching up with her. She's been staying at an assisted living and rehabilitation center for about the last month engaging in physical therapy and practicing her independent living skills in hopes of being able to avoid surgery and return to home and work. She's making steady progress, but we'll just have to wait and see how things work out. At least she still seems to be "all there" mentally speaking, and hasn't lost her feisty (and stubborn) spirit.
2.) I got to see the photos that Tiffany and I took at Fair Park (historic Dallas area that is full of museums and hosts the State Fair each year) on Valentine's Day. Most of them turned out quite well, and a few are really great.
3.) I'm planning to attend my first local furmeet this Sunday (March 8). There are actually two or three in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, but I'm going to start with the closest one, since I'm familiar with some of the usual attendees.
4.) I received word last night that Jessica is heading back to Dallas. Apparently she decided things weren't going to work out in Kentucky and was "encouraged" to leave by her host, who was getting just as fed up with her drama as I was. She's planning to stay with family for (hopefully) a short time before finding another roommate or her own place. I'm still going to stick to my guns on not talking to her until she gets professional help, but I've sent out some contact numbers and resources that will help her to do so if she chooses to use them. I've got very mixed feelings about her return to Dallas. On the one hand, life was simpler and less stressed with her out of town. On the other hand, now that she's back she'll have more of a support network to draw upon, and even if I'm not in it I know enough people who are that I can try to pass on word about local resources. I really want her to succeed and I want to be her friend, but until she gets her act together it's healthier for me to keep a distance.
5.) I've finally caved in to popular opinion and created a Facebook account. A startling number of folks I know or used to know well are popping out of the woodwork: college and high school friends, current friends, Medieval Club veterans, you name it. Of course, since it's under my real name I may have to be more discreet about some things I normally wouldn't think twice about on LJ. You might be surprised at the number of employers and supervisors that check Facebook for info on their employees. Eh, I'll find a balance once I get used to the place.
