Chapter 32 - Unwanted
Bored eyes rested on the two idiots discussing - Myungsoo and Soon-kyu. “Hyungsik did get injured in the end! I should win at least half of the money” Soon-kyu defended her perspective while extending her hand demanding the money. Key scoffed at their discussion, wondering why he was still wasting his time by paying attention to the childish discussion.
“As far as I remember, you said specifically that Kyuhyun would be the one to injure him!” Myungsoo complained as he crossed his arms stubbornly. Key and Sungyeol were leaning against the doorframe, finally turning around to pay attention to something more interesting: Kyuhyun immobilizing Ryeowook’s hand in the living room - they would be heading to the hospital afterwards.
“You both lost!” Kyuhyun screamed loudly from the living room already annoyed at them discussing about it. Meanwhile, Ryeowook was absently staring at the floor, not really paying any attention to his surrounds as Kyuhyun wrapped his hands around a soft surface to prevent him from trying to either move the hand or his fingers. “Let’s go” Kyuhyun muttered to Ryeowook, who nodded in response as he stood up from his seat walking behind Kyuhyun quietly as guilty still clouded his mind.
They left the apartment quickly as neither could endure anymore the other two bickering - they’ve been going at it for half hour already. Ryeowook suddenly bumped against Kyuhyun’s back when they were in the garage, since he was not paying much attention. “Sorry” he mumbled as he finally lifted his gaze, only to see Kyuhyun opening the door of the car for him. “Hop inside” Ryeowook obediently occupied the seat and watched as the demon carefully shut the door.
Then Kyuhyun entered in the driver’s side, shifting on his seat as he leaned towards Ryeowook’s side to buckle the seatbelt. The younger looked rather startled, since he didn’t expect Kyuhyun to go through all of this - he actually wrongly predicted the older would abandon him again and leave him under Leeteuk’s care. As Kyuhyun reached for the seatbelt to pull it, he spared a glance at the younger accidently allowing their gazes to meet. Suddenly, the atmosphere became somewhat awkward between them. Kyuhyun straightened himself on his seat ignoring the curious stare directed to him.
He buckled his own seatbelt and started the engine of the car. “Why you’re not going to kill me?” Ryeowook finally decided to voice his question, since he felt it was safe to do so. Though Kyuhyun’s eyebrow twitched briefly, he quickly recomposed himself in order to give a proper answer. “Because I don’t want to stain my house with blood yet” Kyuhyun spoke coldly it was nearly convincing, though Ryeowook knew this wasn’t it - of course it wasn’t, the demon did not even move an inch to clean the mess of the apartment.
“Tell me the truth” Ryeowook confronted him, knowing the other male wouldn’t be able to shut him up, since his hands were busy on the steering wheel.
“This is the absolute truth” Kyuhyun spoke stoically, remaining with his unexpressive face while keeping his attention on the empty streets - it was already past midnight since it took them long to put things in order and assure Hyungsik would be safe.
Ryeowook bit his bottom lip while glaring at the other male - if only both weren’t stubborn enough things would be clarified between them a long time ago. The youngster decided to leave that subject aside, simply staring at the sight of the city illuminated by the lights coming from the several buildings. Once Kyuhyun parked the car, he also was the one responsible for unbuckling the seatbelt and opening the door of the car for Ryeowook, since he was still unable to do so.
It was Ryeowook’s first time being in a hospital, so his eyes awkwardly glimmered admiring his surrounds. “Stop that, people will think you are creepy” Kyuhyun muttered as he tried to warn the younger to not wear such a wide smile when there were several of sick people waiting to be attended. Ryeowook nodded carelessly, staring everywhere - he wondered why all the employees wore white clothes.
“Why they only wear white?” Ryeowook mumbled as Kyuhyun filled the sheet with information about the patient and his responsible - him in this particular case. “I don’t know” he grumbled while frowning at the latter that kept shifting on his seat seemingly impatient. Kyuhyun rolled his eyes at the sight and resumed his activity of filling the sheet. After waiting for a few seconds, Ryeowook’s presence was required since they needed an x-ray of his hands to determine the situation of his hands.
Ryeowook followed the exact instructions in order to take the x-ray of his hands, though he felt nervous to be left alone in the room while collecting the images needed. Afterwards they needed to wait until the images were unveiled, Ryeowook felt his eyelids turning heavier, body inching closer to Kyuhyun’s - it was no secret he felt weaker lately. The demon stared skeptically at the head resting on his shoulder, eyes barely open. “I sympathize with you. This is the reason why I didn’t kill you” Kyuhyun revealed the truth very lowly, but the younger suddenly snapped his eyes open seemingly hearing what was just spoken.
“You… do?” Ryeowook rubbed his eyes tiringly, though he was quite sure he had heard right. Kyuhyun was about to find a way to contour this situation, when suddenly Ryeowook’s name was called by the nurse. “Mr. Kim Ryeowook” startled, Ryeowook stared at the lady while Kyuhyun lifted his hand and pointed to the boy beside him.
The nurse headed their way, stopping in front of them. “We’ll have to perform a surgery. Thankfully no bone was broken, though in both hands the connection between them was twisted. From the radiography it seems that some nerves were compressed, isn’t it hurting, Ryeowook-sshi?” the younger male stared at her confusedly lightly shaking his head to signal a negative answer.
“That’s strange. We’ll verify that later. Shouldn’t you be filling a report against those thugs who did this?” the woman questioned still analyzing Ryeowook’s hands.
“I rushed here before because I was afraid he might lose his hand” Kyuhyun dramatically spoke, the lady nodded as she carefully helped Ryeowook up. “Such a nice young man” Ryeowook rolled his eyes sarcastically as he allowed himself to be led by the woman. “We’ll immediately start with the preparations for the surgery, okay?” both nodded as she smiled and disappeared behind the double doors with Ryeowook.
Kyuhyun leaned against the back rest of the chair, sighing.
At least he didn’t own any explanation to Ryeowook and hopefully he’d forget about this subject. “I’m too old for that” Kyuhyun muttered as he reminded himself that despite keeping his face of when he was 23 years old he already had 62 years on his back.
“Cho Eun Soo” Kyuhyun immediately froze by the mention of that name, snapping his head towards the direction of the patient that was called. His mind went completely blank as he finally met with the woman he had hoped never to meet again, the one that made him feel so unwanted through his entire life: his mother.
