I'm tired of winter...

1. Listen, people, when I said I loved winter, I meant the regular Ashland/Portland/San Francisco kind, the kind where snow falls and is pretty and melts in a day, the kind where the morning low doesn't go lower than about 25. That is not the message the winter gods in Ashland got from me, however. Somehow they misunderstood and thought I meant that what I really wanted was to move to North Dakota. This morning when I woke up in my uninsulated little house with only two space heaters and a heating pad to keep Sophie and me warm, it was 19 degrees. The high yesterday was 28.

2. I love snow, I really do, but I'm not a huge fan of the ice pack it becomes when you live somewhere that doesn't believe in plowing or salting the roads.

3. Scraping the frost off of your car is fun for the first couple of days, but then...it's not.

4. Winter gets in the way of life. I'm supposed to drive to Portland this weekend, but we're supposed to get another snowstorm Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. Oh, and the high on Saturday is only (hopefully) going to break 20.

In conclusion: I'm tired of winter. Winter has beaten me. I remember why I moved to Southern California, and I take back everything I said about hating all the sunshine. Ok, not really. I do still miss the fall...

P.S. This little video is from Portland, not Ashland, but it could be here. Hills are a challenge when it snows, as these folks discovered the other day: http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-164378
